Wait A Minute… Now Facebook Has An App Store?

App Stores. Everyone is doing it. So, naturally, it was only a matter of time before Facebook went and launched its own fancy little app store. And, as usual, Facebook is attempting to make its App Store the mega super App Store to end all App Stores. Well, kinda…

Facebook is calling it an ‘App Center’, and they’re positioning it more as a place where consumers can find and share apps they’ve found, hence making it easier to purchase them.

“The App Center is designed to grow mobile apps that use Facebook,” says Facebook’s Aaron Brady, “whether they’re on iOS, Android or the mobile web. From the mobile App Center, users can browse apps that are compatible with their device, and if a mobile app requires installation, they will be sent to download the app from the App Store or Google Play.”

It sounds like Facebook is trying to help promote apps, but also create a way for people to find and share those apps. It’s also intended to be something that measures the success of those apps through engagement and user ratings.

Considering the fact that the mainstream public don’t really have a way to find out precisely what is good and what is terrible on the Apple Store and Google Play, I’d say this might end up being a positive thing. Hopefully this will help give top quality mobile games a little more play.
