Why Yes, I Will Play A Music/Fighting Vita Game That Lets Me Import My Own Tunes

I know I’m not alone in thinking that the best fighting games have their own rhythm — you get in the zone of a Street Fighter, BlazBlue or even Mortal Kombat and it’s a lot like drumming.

So it seemed like it was only a matter of time before we got an actual full-on music/fighting game. (As neat/weird as Theatrhythm sounds, it doesn’t quite qualify.) Now, the folks at Zen Studios (makers of Zen Pinball!) have announced they’re making one. The game is called Kickbeat; its the trailer is above.

Over at the PlayStation blog, Zen creative director Neil Sorens walks through the finer points of the game, which sounds like quite a bit of fun. The best part? You can import your own music into the game a la Audiosurf.

Which is great, since the bands listed for the soundtrack don’t do much for me. I wonder what it’d be like to get into a big fight cued by the Oscar Peterson Trio playing “I Want to be Happy”? Guess we’ll find out.
