Hey, another thought, is there perhaps an Amnesia support group that we could start up. Im really letting myself get immersed into that world and it is seriously tough to push on at times. There are parts where i am truly scared. It is a sign of a great game that can get into your emotions like this. Makes me realise there is a whole level of immersion in games that we ordinarily dont get into.
If you have not tried it, do yourself a fav and get it. Im loving every minute of it. : )

Man, feels like it has been a long week even though it was only four days in total. I feel like I have not at all participated this week, this is not good news. I have had to prepare for talks and meetings and do SCIENCE all week. But, enough about that, no more complaining.

We called it Red Red Rover as well. You call individual people out (or groups) and they have to make it through. If they get past everyone they can call Bull Rush and everyone can go.

I can sort of see where they are coming from but it depends on if the school version or the parent talking to the paper is true.
They would likely be in just as much trouble with the parents if they didn't do anything about the fact they had multiple broken bones and a concussion in the space of a week or two.

I understand the banning of real rough contact sports like rugby* but to ban a high five? ...really?
*they banned rugby at my high school because we (my friends, not so much me) kept playing against older and younger students and everyone would get destroyed and our uniforms would be ripped almost beyond repair at every recess/lunch making some very unhappy parents.
They need to stop wrapping the kids in cotton wool.
Back when I was in grade 6, I'd play footy with some classmates at lunchtime, we had jumpers for goalposts, and full contact.
If you got hit, you just got back up and went after the ball.

I have about 10 tabs open with some feature articles I wanted to read(some gaming & EURO 2012 related stuff) but some of them are really long and I'm feeling a bit lazy. I was just dreaming of having the articles in podcast/audio book form so I could have them read to me as I do other things.

Discussing gun ownership on Reddit was a mistake. Someone mentioned that you can't own a gun for self-defence here. I strongly agree with that saying that the scenario someone presented as an excuse to use one in self-defence (violent home invader) was so unlikely that it barely deserves merit and that alternatives (home security systems, strong windows/doors) would act as a deterrent without putting yourself in harm or making you have to make a terrible decision.
This has sparked some debate with a guy who now thinks that I'm influenced by Hollywood movies and the media into thinking that guns = crime (when I've been saying that access to guns make crimes more violent, crime will happen one way or the other but I'd much rather be mugged from someone with a knife that I can run away from than a guy with a gun that can shoot me in the back).
Americans and their fucking guns.
British love their monarchy, Americans love their tipping and guns. No good can come from arguing about it, man. :P
I know. That's why I hesitated before making my initial comment. The idea that people need a gun for self-defence is simply ludicrous to me.
I can imagine some situations where it might be true. It's not common and it's definitely not something that I would believe is true for the vast majority of those that claim they own one for self-defence.
The simple fact is that allowing people to own guns for that reason dramatically increases the amount of guns available. More guns, more criminals with access to guns, more idiots thinking they need their own gun to defend themselves.
Violent crime is actually amazingly rare. Yes, it happens. The odds of finding yourself in that situation is pretty rare and the odds of finding yourself in that situation and being able to defend yourself with a gun is even rarer. I'd be too busy shitting myself to pull out a gun, let alone aim it. Pulling the trigger is right out.
The biggest issue I have is that if it is a criminal offense to have a gun then people with guns are criminals. To me that makes it easy for the police, oh look he has a gun, boom lock up.
When they (pro gun lobby) start with the "criminals have guns therefore I need a gun" arguement, that means that criminals still have access to guns but now the police can't do anything about the fact they do.
If guns are illegal, only criminals can have guns!
If lollipops are illegal, only criminals can have lollipops!
I don't want to take guns away from people who have legitimate reasons to own them. Hunters, sports shooters, farmers. To them, a gun is a tool. I'm fine with that and have no ill feelings towards them. If you're using a gun in self-defence, it's a weapon. I'm not okay with that.
But guns are weapons....
They're weapons that can be used as tools. There's a very fuzzy distinction that not everyone will agree on.
If used against a person, for any reason, it's a weapon and a deadly one at that. There's no need for private citizens to have that.
I agree and would never propose a blanket ban of all guns.
I guess I hate that argument because it is used to try and justify having an uzi or an assualt rifle.

Also if someone ever lets you shoot a shotgun don't do it. You will at best bruise your shoulder and at worse dislocate it. You don't know how powerful the recoil is.

I don't dislike guns. They have a purpose. Self-defence is not that purpose. Self-defence is defusing the situation, reducing possible harm. Throwing a deadly weapon into the mix does not defuse anything.

Gun ownership in Australia is back up to where it was pre-Port Arthur
I didn't think gun ownership was that high pre-Port Arthur. Somewhat exaggerated but not really that high on a global scale considering the rural population.
That's because the whole concept of the gun buyback was not to reduce the number of guns. Very few australians have ever really had guns for anything other than sport or hunting.
So if you say sorry that semi-automatic that you use for rabbit shooting is now outlawed you need to turn it in, that guy is then going to go "Well i still need something to shoot rabbits, guess I better go buy another gun".
Net result equals the same number of guns but a slight change in the type of guns owned.
That's right- most guns owned now are significantly less powerful than those owned before Port Arthur.
I don't think gun ownership nor the culture surrounding them is anywhere near the US, but I'd be alarmed if that figure suddenly spiked. There's also the illlegal ownership side to consider.
And that's the difference between regulation and prohibition.
We think of the US as gun loving nuts but even some of the US states are very strict on gun control. Yes it's in their constitution, but in California for example the restrictions on automatic weapons are much tougher than say Texas. Yes they still have access to guns, they always will, but it's more regulated.
I like guns, I enjoy firing guns, I however have no interest what so ever in owning guns and if I ever did, there is no way in the frozen pits of hell I would ever justify gun ownership with "for self defense".
Maybe in a war-torn country, but no way in hell could that be justified in Australia, except in the case of an alien/zombie/Britney Spears invasion.
I'm pretty set for a Britney Spears invasion. I'll just set my housemate on them. His rabid fanboyism will serve as a good distraction, giving me plenty of time to get on a plane to Canada.

When I get round to it, I'll get my gun license, but yeah it's not for self defence. It will be a rifle, officially for "hunting" (as its the only real legitimate way to get a gun unless you're a farmer) but unofficially for going out with mates to the country and shooting bottles, cans and TVs...
Sports shooting is a legitimate reason too. Fairly sure you can buy a gun to use on a range or similar setup if you jump through the right hoops.
That and pest control if you're rural.
Self defence isn't a great reason to own a gun. Least not in Australia.
In america it makes more sense, if everyone has a gun, why shouldn't I? And if I'm more likely to get mugged with a gun not a knife then I might as well have a gun too.
As far as self defence goes - It's a bit crazy that Australia ban's tasers and pepper spray. I would have no reservations tasing or spraying some big drunk idiot in the city if he was getting violent. Unfortunately police can't be everywhere at once. It's the same with knives. It's getting harder and harder to buy knives, especially expensive, good quality folding or flick knives. Australia customs have started classifying any knife that can be opened with one hand as a flick knife, and therefore a prohibited weapon. Fact is, anyone can walk into Coles or Bunnings and buy a large variety of knives, saws, axes, machetes without any bother.
But for those of us who want a good quality folding or hunting knife have to jump through hoops.
At the end of the day its not the guns and knives that kill people it's the user. Sure some weapons make it easier and more deadly but you can do just as much damage with a shiv, bottle or screwdriver (compared to a knife anyway)
Tasers I can understand, misuse of those can be pretty dangerous. Pepper spray I don't get. That's a pretty damned good self-defence tool.
The whole kerfuffle with knives is a bit odd. I don't agree with the practise but the general idea behind dealing with concealable weapons is something I can understand. They want to make it difficult for people to walk around armed, which is where I think that the problem really begins. You wouldn't consider using a gun for self-defence unless you think there are other people out there with guns.
So if people are confident that others don't have weapons, they won't feel compelled to have their own. If they did feel compelled, then things would snowball to the state that America is now in.
And yes, most people can MacGuyver up a deadly weapon from anything given the right motivation.
Capsicum spray shouldn't even be allowed in my opinion. Mainly because if someone like my father was attacked with it, he could very well die due to his allergy to capsicum. Apparently a decent percentage of people also have a mild to severe reaction to capsicum (or bell peppers) when ingested or when they come in contact with it.
It is psychologically 'easier' to kill someone with a gun than with a knife, as the knife is more intimate, whilst the gun allows for distancing yourself from the crime. Hence a higher likelihood of violence/injury in gun-crime than in knife-crime.
Oh I tweeted about this yesterday but whatever, Ive not spent much time in here recently and the stupid american post above made me remember about it..
I was on XBL, speaking to a 17yo from the US who lived in California, 45 mins from San Fran. By all accounts was well educated. I informed him that it was like 4pm here while it was 11pm where he was, the day before. He really struggled to grasp that fact. When I told him that it was winter here he nearly lost his mind. Then he asked if we have Christmas here now because its winter.. then he asked if we still have frosty the snowman of did we have something else like sandy the sandman.
Im not making this up and in the context of the conversation, he was dead serious. This kid has FINISHED high school or thereabouts and somehow made it through life without learning about the rotation of the earth on an axis or when Christmas is (yeah i know its a pagen holiday or whatever, but thats not the point, he thought it related more to the seasons than the date!)

I'm not saying that's an excuse to be that stupid, but pre internet days you pretty much have to believe what you're told. As for why this generation still has no clue.... I got nothing.
I do remember the reaction of my grandparents in Poland when we sent back the first photos when we moved here, and they saw the Trams in Melbourne.... that was quite funny, But I think 20 years ago, Australia was still fairly unknown on the other side of the world.

There was no "connect to ____ network" option. I exited the game and started it up again but it never came up with that option either. It would just play the usual start up movies (Sucker Punch, Sony logo etc.) and go straight into the game with the cutscene of them arriving at the swamp (where I was up to when I quit).

Indie Game: The Movie :D! Funny and emotional and it definitely gave me a new perspective on the game industry and on the games themselves (Braid, Super Meat Boy, Fez).

The UGC missions are probably not that good anyway and I should probably focus on finishing the campaign first.
I don't think you've reached the point where you're able to connect with those servers though - community missions don't show up until a few missions later, so you might not be getting any of this information at all to begin with.
I'll go have a look now and see if it works for me.

Well, I decided I'd take the risk. The items had been sitting in my cart for a while though so by the time I hit the button to pay for them it came up saying my cart was empty. Had to re-add everything only Crysis 2 was no longer listed online /o\ Decided to grab another game instead. I got Saints Row 3 (Xbox), Battlefield 3 (ps3), Perfect Dark Zero (Xbox) and SPACE MAUREEN!(Xbox). Hopefully they all arrive.

So of late i've been all /o\ as to what days the shows I watch air and are available for acquiring here in Australia, so I decided to make up a little spreadsheet in Google docs, thought I might share it with you guys as well!

Comprehensive! I don't really keep track of my shows though. I usually just save them up for a while and watch them all at the same time.
Here's what I would do, not sure if it's helpful but:
I don't think the genre is necessary seeing as it's for you I'm sure you know which show is what. I'd put the show in the day (where the genre is now) so Breaking Bad would be under Monday where Drama currently is (if you get what I mean? :P). You could move the list of shows and their seasons/when they air/season somewhere else and colour code them using the genre.
I dunno :P that's just me, not sure what else to say. Hope that kind of helped and wasn't too annoying.
I like it simple so I just have a notepad file titled "stuff" that has when the shows air in the US and what episode I'm up to.

Maybe you can also add the current episode or whatever the show is up to. I know some of my sitcoms in the US will air 2 eps in a single week so it can get a bit confusing :P.

Started a Darkadia account, since it's the cool thing to do. Began by adding whatever came to mind. Turns out that's not a very efficient way to do this sort of thing. I've got PS3/360/Wii and apparently 3DS complete. DS is probably half done. Do not want to even consider PC yet.

Haha, yeah saw this the other week. Steam is great I wouldn't own some games if they never came on sale tbh.
Yeah, the Steam forums are in an uproar because of this and no, I believe this is pure BS too. If anything, it has given me access to a VAST library of games otherwise I would've NEVER been able to purchase for the simple fact retail just doesn't nearly exist here and piracy is rampant. Steam actually converted a huge portion of the people who used to pirate into legitimate customers, even if they are cheapskates, they are still paying now! That's Steam biggest success, among many other things.
What I hate the most was this: "Also what Steam does might be teaching the customer that "I might not want it in the first month, but if I look at it in four or five months, I'll get one of those weekend sales and I'll buy it at that time at 75 percent off." It's an approach, and I'm not going to say it's not working for Valve. It certainly works for Valve; I don't know if it works as well for the publishing partners who take on the majority of that haircut. "

So anyway, that Big W toy sale is coming up, and they have a 3ds console for $188 and MK7/SuperMario3D for $48 each. Total together is $269.80 with my massive 5% Big W staff discount. Whaddaya reckon ppl, should I buy one or not considering I bought myself a Vita. How are people liking their 3ds'?
I love my 3DS. One of my favourite games is Nintendogs. No idea why, but I want to collect everything. Also, Spirit camera \o/
I agree with scree (rhyming!), I really like my 3DS. It all comes down to what type of games you like though.
I like my 3DS, street passes are addictive, doesn't have that many games, but that's okay because I can't afford them.
If you don't have a DS(which admittedly, I was probably the only person in the world not to own one), then the backlog is great, but that's probably not relevant.

Price aside (assuming you think it's good enough) and based on the console itself, I'd say picking up a 3DS is worth it. Seems like you're a Nintendo fan so you'll enjoy the software lineup. And like Blaghs said above, if you never owned a DS there's so many amazing games for that system so you'd be more than happy with your purchase :D
If you've never seen the 3D effect it can be really good at times and meh at others. I'm generally fine with viewing it but some people get headaches and whatnot. Overall it's not really necessary but I like it.
As for negatives? Probably the worst thing about the 3DS is the battery life. You'll only get 3-5 hours depending on your level of brightness/3D/volume. You can buy a battery extender thingy but I can't comment on them cause I've never used one. But it's a significant drop from what the DS used to offer (and I hear it's less than the Vita's)

Other than the Marios, Kid Icarus is probably my favourite (though I hate the controls :P). I'm looking forward to fire emblem, luigis mansion and paper mario as well.
On the DS side, there's heaps of good stuff. Pokemon, any first-party games, phoenix wright, etc.
Oh god I could go on and on about all the DS games but I'll let Bish do that (whenever he appears). Depends on what genre you're into.
3DS doesn't have that much so it's easy to recommend games. Ocarina of Time: 3D, Resident Evil: Revelations, Pullblox/Pushmo (downloadable title but a MUST HAVE), Tales of the Abyss (if you're an JRPG fan). I haven't played it but I also heard Starfox 64 3D was good.
Not really a fan of jrpgs, and if star fox 64 is the same one as on the N64, instabuy. Loved that to death.

I've never played any Star Fox games so I can't comment but it should be fairly cheap now.
Is the price any good? That isn't exactly pocket change for me.
The 3DS price looks good but the retail prices of the games are just okay in my opinion. I prefer to import my games (UK 3DS games will work on Australian consoles) and if you look around at some UK importing sites like Zavvi or OzGameShop you can find the games you listed, and others for around the $44 mark.
$48 is a fairly good price though so I probably wouldn't bother but when you consider the usual price of 3DS games in Australia ($50-69) then it's pretty significant. I remember seeing Star Fox for ~$30 or so during the Dick Smith 'sale' a few months back but I had a look earlier and it seems to be gone from the website.
Ozgameshop has those two for $48.99 each so it's better through retail here. (theres something i thought I would never say.) I've got a week or so before staff can put away stock so I'll decide then. Thanks for ur help Greenius mate, ur awesome :D

Good morning, people (night for me, heh), did anyone get the Indie Royale games? This one surely is awesome! NoituLove2 is great and PixelJunk Eden is also very good. Gotta try the other games too.
PixelJunk Eden, what do you guys think of it? It's stylish and smooth as silk, quite enjoyable and tricky but the falls... Man, those high speed falls when you are at the top of the screen and you can catch anything. I suffer vertigo and, I can't explain why, the gravity+falls in this game truly made me a bit dizzy.
Minor gripe for an overall quite sweet game.
The bundle comes with the Alpha of Iconoclasts. No idea what that game is about either. Did anyone play it?

Greenius: Please, please, please, please, please don't you ever say that again. You can't imagine the amount of cool stuff that sadly isn't on Steam atm. In fact, if you give it a pass you might be effectively forfeiting it from coming to Steam in the first place! What we gotta do is to play the game and probably blabber around how we want it in the STEAMZ. DEM STEAM KEYZ ARE POWER.
Else, it'll be like Radian Games or Firebase Inc. who got rejected by Valve and that would suck :( (Hopefully they might be re-submitting, Radian Games are awesome, same for Firebase!)
Oh, GOG is having a sale as well! Plenty of neat stuff in there too.
Well for the previous Indie Bundles I bought I just downloaded the games and didn't bother with the Steam keys because I never used Steam back then. But now that I do it's nice just having everything all in one place :). I know I could always unofficially add it to Steam as a non-Steam game but I dunno... :/
Also it technically doesn't matter in this case because I still bought the game anyway. But then again it's not like I would've played it (or other games) anyway even if it came with a Steam key. Who plays games nowadays?! :P

I usually ignore anything that isn't Humble Indie Bundle because the games generally don't interest me but I liked Auditorium on iOS so I bought it for that :). PixelJunk Eden was one of the very first games I wanted on PSN but never got. A friend gifted it to me a few weeks ago so I gifted it back to them. I haven't played the other 2 games but the goat one looked interesting, however, the lack of a Steam key for it means I'll give it a pass.
