Hey hey hey.
The most important thing I learned this weekend is that I'm absolutely terrible at keeping up with children. They just drain me of energy so, so fast. My uncle brought his three children to visit for the weekend and I was able to keep up with them for a few hours, but after that I was just exhausted. They were so very loud.
TAYbie parents, I tip my hat to you.
Can'd Meat 3 Write Up
I packed my bags around midnight on Thursday, sorting out sandwich bags containing herbs and spices into a larger sandwich bag and planning what I'd need to buy for dinner when I got down there.
Friday's workday went slow but finally 4:00pm came trundling along and I left, stopping to buy a bottle of Dr Pepper BBQ sauce (which would remain untouched) and then began the long treck to Shiggy's place.
I had to change trains in Redfern where several sniffer dogs and cop type folks were on the prowl for evildoers and became increasingly paranoid about the baggies of dried leaves and powders in my bag. That would have required some 'splainin' to do and, most likely, a detour to some testing area. Thankfully I escaped detection and hopped on a train to Minto.
When I arrived at the station, Shiggy and Bish were already waiting so we stood and chatted about things and stuff. We thought Pez may have missed the stop in his bed bug bite itching stupor but soon he disembarked and we made our way to Mconald's for food. After that we went to Shiggy's place to eat our burgers, meet his folks and watch Family Guy. Then we played Xbox till the Effluvious Boy appeared. When he did, we all went to meet the puppies and then, eventually. began our long trip to canberra.
We recorded a Potaku Unplugged special which thankfully wasn't just Pez and Shiggy yelling at each other for 3 hours, stopped to eat at another McDonald's and finally arrived at Blaghman's house around midnight to meet Blaghs, JamesMacUsedMyHandle and Rocket.... Oh Rocketman!
We chatted for an hour then went to bed. It was cold.
The next day Flu, Shiggy and I went to pick up Notoriousaur but his fligfht was delayed. Flu and I decided we needed snuggies like Bish's to keep warm at night so we went to Big W. And bought LOTS of Nerf guns. Pez called Shiggy to find out where we were. We picked up Notty and got to meet him AT LAST! It was pretty cool, but I forgot to bring him Lindt chocolate. Because we picked him up in under 10 minutes, the parking was FREE! $1.50 saved!
We went home and opened the Nerf guns but everyone was far too mature to actually play with them. That last bit? That was a lie. Obviously. I'm sure Blaghs will be finding foam bullets for the next few years. Jordi and Rize had joined the parTAY by then. Soon it was time to leave again, this time to pick up F4ction and get groceries. We told Bish we were leaving but he had to finish off a pizza. We waited for a long time. I think he had a nap. We eventuually left and bought ALL THE THINGS before speeding to the Airport and grabbing F4ction. In n out in under 10 mins! FREE PARKING! $3 saved in total!
We got back then Bish and I set to work in the kitched. He whipped up a tasty pasta lunch while I began preparing my epic dinner. Things happened. People disappeared and reappeared later with boxes of Alcohol. Games were played, many, many, many people were Nerfed. Not that they were some how changed and made less effective. Just that they were shot in the face. We tried to gang up on faction, waiting atop the stairs for him to return from a bathroom break but an unsuspecting Flu wandered into the firing line. I'm not sure who fired the first shot, but after that, it was a massacre.
I cooked dinner and people seemed to enjoy it. I made vegetable, chicken and pizza pakora. Faction proclaimed it, as he returned again and again to steal food before it was served, the best thing he had ever tasted. Ever. That's a pretty good compliment. We watched some Scott Pilgrim and Bish served up some AWESOME deepfried ice cream. We also sung Blarpy Firthday to Blaghs as he blew out the candles on his birthday brownies. Blaghs sister also turned up earlier and decided to stay.
More things.
Then bed. It was significantly colder. The snuggies, they did nothing.
The next day Bish made breakfast. We did more things. Flu, Shiggy and I took Notty and Rockets to the airport then went and bought MORE NERF GUNS!
Then we watched Robocop.
Then Flu, Bish, Pez, Shiggy and I all hopped back in the car and went home. Stopping at Maccas. Again.
Fin.
(I may have started to get bored at the end)
Page get!
At least until Meat posts with links on Page 1 get approved.
Also: I mean I got bored at the end of the write-up, not at the end of the meat. At the end of the meat I had new NERF guns. No way was I going to be bored.
Oh, people also played Russian Roulette with a NERF gun. Deer Hunter style with NO respins and if you get shot, you take a shot! BEST. GAME. EVER.
I wanted to play but they were drinking some nasty coffee tequila :(
F4ction won. Pez and Rize... Not so much.
That coffee tequila was amazing! AMAZING!
But I hate coffee D:
Whoops, I believe my first reply got eaten for only being a link. This time fo' sho'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTQvnhNVgxQ
That's the impression I get for the quality of the coffee tequila.
Nice Meat write up Doc. Sounds like another fun meat.
Ha Ha. Did someone pull Rocketman's pants down or did he just have loose trousers?
That pic reminds me of high school. If Rocketman was caught like that he would wake up to a lower back/upper bottom with smiley faces drawn on him.
Loose pants. He already had some sick on him, so no one was touching him to doodle on his face.
His pants just fell down.
We were quite impressed.
I had a feeling that Rocketman picture would surface again. Poor guy just wanted to sleep!
If you get so drunk you pass out, you must expect pictures to surface eventually.
Did anyone answer Ruffle's question?
Why is his ass out? Disinfect that couch! :/
My husband just informed me it's four years today since we got engaged. I have no idea how he even remembered the date. I was pregnant at the time, so that's my excuse for not remembering. :P
Howdy Tayberinos
I had a quiet week off last week, nothing too excited but gave me a chance to catch up on my reading- I highly recommend Anathem by Neal Stephenson.
I also went and saw The Cabin in the Woods (Awesome) and managed to play a couple hours of Need For Speed:Hot Pursuit, which is a great game that I pick up and put down between other games.
So a monday morning question: what is your 'standby' game- a game that you play when you're not playing other things?
Mine is NFS, New Vegas or (when I'm in the mood) Starcraft 2
I'd say for me, SPAZ or Torchlight, both I can easily alt tab out of to chat or something.
CABIN IN THE WOODS!
Damn that was a good movie.
SKYRIM!!
Dark Souls, I just ... can't ... kick ... the .... HABIT!
It's like that with minecraft for me.
I have been so unproductive!
I logged into minecraft last night when everyone had gone to sleep. I went out the front of my 2nd house and a creeper gave me a housewarming present of explosions =/ Spent a while trying to fix up my house instead of sleeping.
Awesome, maybe they're no longer fascinated by me and my house XD
If I was up I would've helped =(
haha, I don't know wether to be sad or happy. On one hand I have a house so nice that creepers love it on the other hand I have a house so nice that creepers love it.
The answer is cats.
What's that scree? You want me to spawn 10,000 cats in Nob's house? OKAY!
What platform do you play on? I've been meaning to organise an NFS:HP playdate for some time now...
I'm a PS3 player (yes, all you lot jeer at my console-ness)
Pokemon was my staple standby game for a long time, I used to "play" Pokemon while I was playing WoW - that is, grinding steps in Pokemon to hatch eggs whilst grinding rep/dailies/gathering profession mats in WoW. Sometimes I'd do elite 4 runs while I was raiding. Also, sometimes I'd play Pokemon while I was playing Pokemon.
I'd also say that Chrono Trigger is a bit of a standby game for me. It's my All Time favourite game of All Time and I have played it through at least once a year since 2003. Sometimes I'll just go through the game as usual, other times I'll set some challenges or got for alternate endings.
Far Cry 2-the respawning checkpoints don't bother me as much this time because I'm just playing to kill stuff.
and maybe
Burnout Paradise-It's always fun to do some crash events and go online for a bit.
Left 4 Dead 2.
No matter what I'm in-between playing, there is always time for Reach :)
Morning Friends!
Today I was feeling less like death (I actually got 8 hours of sleep \o/) so I am in work today! How are we all going on this Monday morning?
Hi! I'm still alive!
EXPLODY! Welcome back! :D
Hey random question, not in any way stalking xD, do you take the Frankston express train into the city each morning?
Most mornings yes, sometimes I need to get it a bit earlier so get one of the looooooong trains.
I thought that was you! I should prod you in the side next time and say hi :) I used to take the long trains for extra DS gaming time. I don't play that anymore though since I've run out of games worth playing.
I'd ask my next question but Strange asked it for me
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean, "Hi Explody!"
What's the hip hop happening?
work, work is happening.
Mr Explody! Where have you been?
Lurking. Work is demanding a lot of my time for the foreseeable future. I also bought a house further from the city than I'm used to, and my wife is square up the duff. Essentially my time is at a premium so I had took a step back from online communities and even gaming in general. But I'm still here, and I still read posts and some comments!
Hi Mr. Explody,
Don't think I've digitally met you before. (digitally met? I'll stick with it) I'm Masha or Mashaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Also, thanks for the slang lesson. I have never heard of the term 'up the duff.' Wow, according to Google it means pregnant.
Congratulations to you and your wife.
Oooh...congrats and good luck on the baby. They certainly make life interesting!
Yeah with the events transpiring it's not surprising that you had to step back, congrats to you though and good luck on making the new family
Well hello thar!
Is this a permanent return or just passing by?
Just passing through.
Morning Fronds!
Was a bit lame last night, couldn't get to sleep. Then I did, and I found ten dollars.
I'd also like to officially thank everyone who came to the Canberra Meat, you guys are what make meats awesome. Except for that Shane guy. It took a lot of work, but we managed to get him out in less than half an hour, so I think we did a good job there.
Also, I have video of people singing Bohemian Rhapsody. Trying to work out how much I can milk it for, though I do have to compete with the fact that my voice is in the background... Or the foreground at points... ... ...
I think I need to find ten dollars more, make this post more interesting...
What about me? why don't you officially thank me for no reason? WHY DO YOU HATE ME!?
Nob, I... I'm jealous of you. I'm so mean to you, because I wish I could be more like you, but, deep down, in my heart, I know that I could only ever be a pale imitation.
How good is your video?
I have this terrible 800x480 footage where everyone sounds like they're underwater, but I think Shiggy, Flu and Rockets make up for it.
Mine's probably 640x480, though I can't remember which way up my camera was. The sound was pretty good on my phone(though my singing ruined everything), but I'm not sure how well it will hold up on real speakers...
Hmm, just had another listen, sound quality is quite bad, not to mention that you can hear me talking, but it has the added advantage of me not being in it visibly, and I have video of you recording people...
Edit them together then upload to the Potaku Youtube channel :P
I'll try salvage what I have.
Easier if I send the file to you, or for me to try upload it myself?
Either is fine. If you want to upload it, I'll text you the username and password
Like I said, you should just mute the video and dub in the real song.
I think I might overlay the actual song softly over the audio; there are moments of ridiculous screeching that I find amusing.
Fair enough.
In and out in under thirty minutes!
That's what she said?
Morning everyone. Played through Halo CE Anniversary on the weekend. 343 Industries did a good job with it. It gives me hope that Halo 4 will be awesome. Also played some Kameo. Kameo was the first 360 game I played so it was fun to go back to it. The graphics look last gen but they've managed to squeeze a lot of enemies on the screen at once, something I imagine would have been impossible if the graphics had of been at the same level most games are today.
My Aunt over in New Zealand also gave birth the other day. A baby boy called Alexander. So grats to her.
Also, in regards to Halo CE Anniversary, it would appear as if I haven't improved my game playing skills over the years as I found my self dying on the same sections I died on 10 years ago.
Anniversary is awesome. I'm up to the Library on my solo Normal run, and up to 343GS on my co-op Legendary run with my brother. Same awesome game, shiny new visuals.
Kameo is awesome! I haven't touched it for a few years and never got around to finishing it because I got stuck somewhere. Forgot where... It reminds me of the good old Rare games back on the old N64.
Moooooorning TAY... How are you I am good thanks...
Played more MC over the weekend and nearly finished Game of thrones season 2... Bit slow I know, BUT OMG DAT SHOW!!!!!! What did you guys get up to other then a epic can'd meat?
Where is your hole?
That sounds so bad but that was the last thing you were working on right?
North of Powalen's castle in the snow area in a little hill :)
Too far away =(
Maybe it's time for me to install a shortcut. I'll see if I can drop in during the week.
My hole is hidden in a mountain- woooooow that sounds so bad if you don't know what we're talking about... I started building the wall but now I'm out of coal /o\ GREENIUS I NEED YOU!!!!!!
When are you usually on?
I can jump on this afternoon for a short period... I'll contact you on steam if you're available :D
Alternatively I can just go on now and pop a chest in your house somewhere with a bunch of coal in it :)
Is that all you wanted?
Yes pleeeeeaaaase :D the rest I'm good with
Got my eyes retested (Which my eyes sadly have gotten slightly weaker :(, that sucks), picked out some new frames my next set of lenses and also got my new metal watch adjusted, it fits my wrist completely now. Hopefully it won't cause a short circuit in my left arm.
Good morning friends!
Didn't do much gaming on the weekend :(
I have a day off work today so I'm going back to work to watch Brave \o/ I'm also incredibly tired. My sleep pattern is destroyed right now.
I watched the pilot episode of Tron Uprising after work last night, I like where the story is going but I'm not a fan of the character design. Maybe it will grow on me, but it just looks bad.
I really want to watch that, hopefully I can soon
Brave or Tron Uprising?
Tron Uprising :), Tron and Tron Legacy I really enjoyed watching
I have a confession, I've never seen the original Tron. I feel like I should hand in my nerd card. I keep meaning to watch it but I never get around to it. Before I saw Tron Legacy I didn't even know Tron was the name of a person, I thought it was the name of the place. I feel so ashamed.
I watched Tron again recently. It has not aged well.
Yeah it's not easy on the eyes, but remember when it was made.
I missed it when it first began too, it just looked so awesome for its time, especially when you got into the grid, it was like he was actually in a retro game world. Both movies the digital world is just gorgeous to look at
Yeah, the characters look a little odd at first, especially with the lines going down their body/legs, makes their legs look way to long. You get used to it pretty quickly though.
This weekend was Global Reddit Meetup Day.
I spent that day in bed.
Rather glad that I did too. A few weeks ago, I was asked out by a girl on OKCupid. I figured I might as well have a few drinks, eat some sushi, see where things go.
It was a trainwreck. She was definitely not the type of person that I would see myself hanging out with normally.
She was also a Redditor who went to this Global Reddit Meetup Day. I know this because there are group photos up on /r/brisbane.
Taking the coward's way out feels rather good.
Was she a bad person or was she just not your type?
Mostly the latter.
Aw that sucks. Was the date a disaster or was it just her? Hopefully, it didn't put you off Online dating.
It's nothing. Just found it amusing that my laziness let me dodge a bullet this weekend.
I haven't been turned off of the idea of online dating. Just don't care to put much effort into it. I've tried a few times where I reached out to the girl, went on a few dates and then nothing. My approach for a while has been to simply have a profile and see what happens. That's lead to two dates with two different girls in about 6 months.
The first was okay but we didn't really click. The second was this trainwreck.
On the plus side, they approached me. Which is nice for the ego, if nothing else.
Ha Ha. +1 Ego boost.
Because we all know that I need an ego boost :p
So for those who ordered something off Game.com.au, you'll get it. Just got mine this morning, ordered on Friday 15th. So yeah, just a heads up.
Not sure if you'll see this but hows the 3DS situation going?
It's $168 at Big W but there's also the announcement of the XL :O. Did you end up buying it?
Haha, yeah, was really hesitant but ended up biting, next day, bam, new 3DS announced...grrrr Should be here tomorrow though. Thanks a lot mate.
Oh man, I hope the turnout is good for this week's GTA 4 play dates (PS3 is on Wed, Xbox on Tue-so if you have both even more fun)
GTA 4 had some fun modes. Like doing a racing event with weapons turned on, then driving ahead a bit, jumping out of the car and trying to shoot rockets at other racers.
or deathmatch where one team can only kill others with cars. Ha, the hilarity as someone tries to chase you into an alley.
I have the DLC but I never played multi so if people have it we could even try base jumping or having a TAY biker gang riding along.
*fingers crossed my connection is good on the night, it has been good so far*
Having never played multi on GTA 4, I am thinking of joining in on the 360 shenanigans, what dlc would I need? I think I only have the Lost and the Damned (I think that is what it was called).
I think the second DLC pack, Ballad of Gay Tony, had the base jumping. Lost and the Damned was the bikes one.
Don't rush and get it though before we confirm others have the DLC as well. Although, you could still get it since the story is long and pretty good. Or just buy a cheap copy of the disc version with the two DLC packs bundled together.
Thanks MASHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
I've never played multi either but here's a question for the Xboxers,
Would it be better running multi off the game disc (GTAIV) or the DLC disc (Episodes from Liberty City). I assume the latter so we could play DLC content but maybe it doesn't matter :P, I guess not everyone has the DLC.
Hmm, that's a good question. I have the DLC disc release and the Main game on disc as well (on ps3 at least) Anybody have any answers?
Looks at GTA on Steam
Oh...
Looks at GTA on Steam
Oh…
I played some GTA4 online a few weeks ago and came to the realisation that GTA4 deathmatch is basically The Hunger Games: The Game. It is so much fun :)
Mad keen to play some tomorrow night :)
I guess I should probably finally get the DLC...
CJ's Log week 4
Pending.... Come back next week. Maybe
Morning all.
R&C Collection is out this week! :)
But I'm not sure if I'll get it...
There was a meme called Bad Joke Amon in the Legend of Korra fandom.
They took a scene where Amon held a rally and made a bad standup routine out of it. Most of them are fairly spoiler heavy but here's a non-spoilerish example.
After the finale. Someone posted what can only be considered the last one of these jokes. I won't link it simply because I don't want to give people the opportunity to spoil things but I can point people who have seen the finale in the right direction if they ask.
I offer this rabbit in lieu of actual content.
broken link is broken... it's blank for me
I don't think quickmeme likes hotlinks. Hence the bunny.
and it is an adorable bunny, I saw a bunch of bunnies when I passed a pet store on Saturday, they were so adorable as they hopped around and nibbled on the hay.
Melbourne TAYBies: Serrels meat on Wednesday night. Not sure on timing yet but most likely we'll be aiming to go have dinner somewhere then go to the Mana Bar afterward. Not sure if Serrels will join us for dinner (have not asked) but I'd rather not go wandering on an empty stomach. Open to suggestions re: venues / timing. Not sure who is interested, either.
I'm keen for whatever!
I'm in the city for something else at 7, so I was considering dropping in there early evening (maybe 5.30 - 6.30) if anyone else is starting early.
I'm keen I guess, gotta meat some TAYbies for once :P
Depends on what time it is and if I can take up your offer for the lift home. Thanks again :)
Anyone offering a lift there? :P
Where are you? I need to decide if I drive, or drink :P
I'm pretty happy to give you a lift home. I'm going sort of in that direction anyway.
Most likely would be grabbing some food in the CBD (whether with or without TAYbies) then either driving or taking public transport up to the Mana Bar area. However we could also do the mana bar for an hour or so earlier then grab some dinner. Depends what time people are available.
Mrs Tigs and I will make mana bar, not so sure about dinner. If most people are making dinner we might, otherwise we will probably just grab a pizza in south melbourne
I have the Snake Eater theme on loop in my head.
This is good.

Flurry of posts this morning, now everyone seems to have disappeared...
Give me something to read!
I'm working on a Meat write up in between doing actual work (for once!) Hang tight!
Actual work? That's a real thing?
Blind mown.
I'll just leave this here...
Hang onto your joysticks
Do you consider yourself a rock hard player
Love the PC master race talk :D
@shane a helpful tip in raising your new son
Do NOT let your daughter dress him up in girl clothes, pretend he's a girl, or give him a girl name. My sister did that to me when I was young. It messed me up, man.
:P
(I think my girl name was Sarah...)
HAHAHA
It sure does explain a lot, doesn't it? :P
Good tip, thanks dude(tte) :)

HAHAHA - was waiting for the Post #2000 post, then remembered that there wasn't a post #2000.
Post 1000 is me telling Greenius that Xenoblade is ugly. :( He's going to murder me on Wednesday :(
Wow I think that might actually be my first top 10
I don't think I posted at all last week.
:/
TAY was extra quiet so it made me look spammy!
Greenius, more like spamius. Am I right
I prefer Green Eggs and Spam
I think I actually got the first 2000th comment ever with "green eggs and spam".
You'd think that being on leave would make me post on TAY more, but it's the opposite.
Yeah, I'm the same mate. Being home today, I notice my TAY participation is far lower than usual.
Yup. That tends to happen.
When I have my fortnightly Monday off, I rarely post.
Top ten! :D
Repost from last week:
MY CAN’D MEAT WRITE UP.
3:05PM TO 3:28PM, SATURDAY THE 23RD JUNE, 2012
As you all know, I had a semi-valid excuse for not attending the entirety of the meat. It’s not really a great excuse, but I kind of made a promise that implied I wouldn’t abandon my wife when she was in pain. I’m not sure how legally binding that promise actually is, but I felt kind of morally obligated to uphold it today. Long story short (or technically, long story slightly longer by means of appending this summary), I was only at the Can’d Meat for 23 minutes.
One of these days I will attend a meat in its entirety.
Anyway, there was a small group noise that might have been a cheer (might have been a collective belch) when I entered, prodding my two-year-old in front of me. For the first time, I saw a meat through her eyes, how she would have seen it, and I understand her hesitation. Strange music, strange people, strange… smells? What the hell is that in the kitchen? A man who would later introduce himself to me as Effluvium Boy said that it might be Doc What… or it might be whatever he’s cooking. I see at least one empty tabasco sauce bottle and nod sagely in agreement.
All the usual suspects are there, and some unfamiliar faces. I get introduced to Jordi and James NeinHandle (hi guys!) and have time to group hello everyone. Some have noticed that I have lugged in a big box of books with me. After a brief stampede, there are still about thirty bazillion copies left; I may have overestimated demand slightly…
My two year old got interested in Nerf Guns that were shooting pellets around Blaghman’s kitchen, but I decided that perhaps they aren’t the most appropriate toy for a psychotic small child with anger issues. Also, she noticed rum balls, and began to brave the crossfire for a taste… thankfully Doc What had a child-friendly alternative on hand:
Caramello Koala. That’s good.
Wait, she’s already had chocolate today. That’s bad.
But it keeps her quiet. That’s good.
Oh, wait, she got some caramel in her hair. That’s bad.
Pez has found a damp cloth to clean her. That’s good.
I still feel like a dud dad. That’s bad… but par for the course.
Annie took a real shine to Flu, who is a bit of a spunk really. If they were closer to the same age, I’d probably encourage the attraction. But it’s too weird to think about things like that so SHAME ON YOU FLU. (PS: everyone else weirded her out… no offence, guys (PPS: This was a joke, so don’t kill me))
What stands out in meats for me isn’t what gets said. It’s what happens afterwards: all the things that I meant to say or forgot to ask stand out in my mind, and start hurling rotten fruit at me. I feel like such a socially awkward wallflower.
Anyway, here’s what I meant to say:
* Shiggy + Doc What: Potaku is truly awesome – you should be well proud.
* Effluvium Boy: Yep, I’m a public servant. The work is shit boring, but the pay is good. What do you do for a crust?
* Bish: Wanted to say anything more than hi, really.
* Everyone who owes me money now: I’m sick of waiting. Honestly, it’s been hours. I’ve already called the debt collectors. I told them to forget the money, and just to break your legs instead. Mkay?
* To the folks I said hi to but didn’t recognise: What are your names?
All right, that’s 600+ words for 23 minutes of meat. For those who made a weekend out of it, I expect about 20 000 words.
Hahaha! Sorry.
so, i just had what was probably the best day of my life yesterday.
went to the perth supanova and got to meet Burnie Burns and Gavin Free (from Rooster Teeth) who are my favourite people ever. got them to sign some dvd's and got a picture with them. they were super cool guys, and were obivously very accustomed to extremely nervous fans (me) and i actually managed to talk to them and have a little conversation. i also asked a question at their panel, which is amazing for me, being a pretty nervous guy when it comes to public things. i bought a shirt from roosterteeth (one of gus as Che Guevara) and a cool shirt with deadpool's symbol on it, but i really don't remember much except for meeting the rooster teeth guys. because i have been waiting about 6 years to see these guys! and they also confirmed next year different rooster teeth guys will be coming down as well! i can't wait :D
