Man, it’s been ages since we’ve done a ‘This Week In Games’, mostly because there hasn’t really been that many games. This week? Well there are games. Otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this post!
There aren’t any massive humdingers, but there are a fair few decent games coming out this week. Might as well lap it up, because July is pretty much dead on that front. Dry July indeed.
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (360/PS3/Wii/PC/3DS/Vita)
What is it? Batman. LEGO. Together at last.
Should you care? Apparently it’s pretty good!
London 2012: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games (360/PS3)
What is it? A timely reminder that, yes, the Olympics are coming and, yes, they will ruin TV for a fortnight.
Should you care? It’s actually an Aussie developed game, but I don’t have high hopes.
Ratchet and Clank Trilogy (PS3)
What is it? One of those HD remaster things.
Should you care? Personally I’ve bought a lot of these things, and I’ve never spent that much time with them. I always play for a couple of hours and move on to new games. Just me, maybe.
Spec Ops: The Line (360/PS3)
What is it? An excuse to listen to Hold The Line by Toto? Undoubtedly. It’s also a promising shooter set in Dubai in a post apocalyptic waste land of some kind.
Should you care? I’d wait for reviews.
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armour (360)
What is it? New entry into the series featuring hideous broken Kinect controls.
Should you care? Get it off me, get it off me!
The Amazing Spider-Man (360/PS3/Wii//3DS)
What is it? The game of the movie of the comic!
Should you care? I can’t be sure, but I’m guessing no.
All of these games are inferior to Lollipop Chainsaw, which should have had a post all to itself if there was nothing else coming out that week. :P
I'm surprised terrible Olympic tie-in games still get made. Are there people that actually buy them? Who are these people? What exactly is wrong with them?
I might check out Lego Batman 2 at some point. I picked up a pre-owned copy of Lego Batman for $3 a few months back and haven't played it yet. I'd hate to jump into the second one and be all confused by the story.
Don't think that will matter. It really dose in LEGO games.... mind you, Batman 2 IS the first Lego game with full voice acting, rather than the mubbles of the old games.
Shame Ratchet and Clank lacks the 4th one. It was a departure from the norm but it was really hard and weapon customisation was awesome, and telling your robot buddies to turn bolt cranks and do all the menial stuff while you shoot of bad guys was a lot more fun than having to do both. Probably my favourite Ratchet game, except maybe Quest for Booty (although the weapons sucked in that one).
Which fourth one are you referring to? Tools of Destruction? I've lost track now they've stopped numbering them.

Tools of Destruction is the first game for the PS3 and the future trilogy
My favourite is A crack in Time. I never played much of the PS2 games so I might pick up the HD collection soon.
Yeah that one is awesome. The biggest problem I had was a lack of continuity with the rest of the trilogy. What happened to Ratchett's love interest? Why is the love interest from number 2 who was originally a lombax then not a lombax now a lombax again? The time travel was also silly but I was more than willing to overlook that because it had some awesome gameplay mechanics in there.
I'm actually looking forward to Lego Batman 2. The Lego games are not good by most standard measures but there is a certain derpy charm about them that just makes them rather fun.
The positive reviews are somewhat worrying though. I don't want Lego games to be good. There is so much fun to be had with their mediocrity.

For some reason I thought Lego Batman 2 was due later this year, awesome that it's out this week, now I have something to use my JB vouchure from January on.
I figured most of the movie tie-ins/olympic games would probably start to move to xbla/psn releases.
LEGO Batman + Ratchet & Clank are on the agenda.
Spiderman will be a bargain bin pick up, still haven't sat down to play Shattered Dimensions and Edge Of Time, lol
I didn't mind the Spec Ops demo, even though it will be a very hand holding game, the setting was nice enough to keep me interested, so this will be another bargain bin pickup down the track.
I thought the Spec Ops demo was horrible. It's basically Gears of War without the interesting enemies.
Aliens don't instantly make something "interesting" either, most 3rd person games still end up with the various levels of 'grunts' through to 'brutes' anyway, doesn't matter if they are human or not.
The idea of a demo is to entice and it did for me, I honestly wanted to know what the hell happened to the city and or the platoon you are going into find. Now I already know the basic premise of the story, or what it's based on... so I have some idea where it's heading, but I would still like the blanks filled in.

I disagree with the comment made about the olimpics. There is nothing good on TV anyway. If I want to whatch a TV show, I buy it. On Blu Ray. Cos I am that cool. B)
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has been region locked on steam - It WAS a banner Ad on my steam client last night and a store page was up not no pricing or dates ... Now I check again via the web store and it doesn't even show up - yet again region locking ... *sigh*
Already have Spec Ops preordered at ozgameshop. I liked the demo and looking at retail prices compared to ozgameshop, I can wait to save 30 bucks.
Lego Batman 2 is so good. I've been laughing all day at the Batman and Superman dialogue. I could have done without the vehicle segments though and Supes does make the game kind of easy.
