The next Batman game will be a prequel that centres around Batman’s first encounter with the Joker, according to a new report.
According to Variety, the prequel to Rocksteady’s Arkham Asylum and Arkham City will be based on the Silver Age of DC’s comics from the 1950s. Variety says the game will be out in 2014 “at the earliest”.
I’ve reached out to Warner Bros for comment and will update should they respond.

Didn't Mark Hamil say that he was done voicing the Joker? I can't imagine anyone else doing this Joker justice.

Conroy and Hamill are now and forever Batman and The Joker in my brain.
There have been plenty of Jokers, watch under the red hood, John Dimagio (Bender, Marcus Fenix) joker was good. Also Hamill has retired from Joker like 20 times already. AA was his last joker role then he did the DC mmo then arkham city and he said he would do the joker if they do killing joke animated movie.
I would love this to be real. I'm getting tired of these dark and gloomy comic book games/movies
I generally like Dimaggio's work, but his Joker felt like a poor approximation of Hamill's... Maybe it's just me, but his take on the character just didn't fit.
I have no objection to this if it does happen, then again all the set up in Arkham City for future events has me interested. Here's hoping they're not stalling the series, Assassin's Creed style. :P
Maybe you'd have more luck getting comments from Warner Bros if you asked them instead of reached out to them?

Could be interesting. I assume it won't be set in the 50's because that would make Batman a very old man in Arkham Asylum.
What they mean is they'll probably be using a story or similar idea to the comics published in the 1950s not actually have the game set then.
I'd just rather a story that doesn't centre around the Joker. Asylum and City where both fantastic (i was so skeptical about Arkham City too!), but the Jokers already been done.

So there's no chance of this being set in the 50s? Thats one of the aspects of the animated series that I really enjoyed.
They never gave a year to the cartoon to make the year a mash of "somewhen".

Not a fan of this idea at all, while Mark Hamill being done is a good reason to stop, I'm well aware others can do the role, what i don't understand is why they felt the need to make the next one about the Joker at all, not that the premise sounds horrible or anything, but he's been the entire focus of Asylum and half the focus of City. Meh I'm actually more disappointed to learn Rocksteady is doing another Batman, I'd like to see what else they can do, and ultimately I found City inferior to Asylum.

I know, it would be good if they got the scarecrow in as he did send those messages that could be picked up by the sequencer. And maybe they could do manbat as a major villikan, i love manbat, tha same with killermoth and mr freeze
Speaking of voice actors, Christopher Corey Smith did a fantastic Joker in Lego Batman 2 I thought.
I was hoping for a kind of Batman Beyond style take on the next game, but I'll be excited for this all the same.
how about a futuristic setting like in the dcuo mmo cutscenes where everyone can be on the same power level.
If you read the source it lso talks about the Justice League being a central part of the game...not sure why Kotaku didn't bother mentioning that bit.
The source article only mentions that it would 'make sense' to open up Batman's world, and that DC is probably looking to push Justice League across their IP at the moment.
No specific mention of Justice League focus in the game at all that I could see.
I wouldn't mind a game set in the "present" that has flashback parts to his first encounter with The Joker, perhaps something that will lead him to realise The Jokers end game
The first meeting with the Joker puts e with the concept of a game based on The Man That Laughs and The Killing Joke, of which I would be plenty happy with.
