Wow, a Life Hacker US article has just gone and fucked my computer, their "Best Windows Apps" article the other day I saw Growl was available for windows, it's now gone and screwed up several applications causing them to freeze when they open, THANKS GUYS for recommending dodgy applications, brilliant one! Now I get the fun task of repairing/re-installing several programs, just how I wanted to spend my Monday morning.
Growl for Windows seems a bit dumb.
It makes sense on Mac because Macs don't have a great notification system. Pretty much everything uses Growl to make up for that.
Windows has that system tray message bubble thing that everyone ignores. Growl would be the same except even more ignored.
I honestly wanted growl for Firefox & iTunes, that was it and it went and fucked iTunes even after uninstalling it *sigh* but yeah it's a totally pointless program for Windows otherwise!
But iTunes is fucked anyway. It needs no assistance in the matter.
Never had a problem with it in the 7 years i've used it as a media player =P if anything the problems that have occurred around it were due to programs associating with it or Windows itself being a little bitch.
Everyone seems super excited for the Ouya but all I see in its future is a dedicated Hentai Eroge machine.
...and the problem is?
:P
Wait... I understand what Hentai is...
but what's Eroge? :S
Porn games.
ahh, right. I had my eyes opened to them on a SNES emulator when I was 11 or so.
...never again.
Oh-dear-god-what-did-I-just-download five.
I don't really see the point of the Ouya. The casual market already has their smartphones to play with, why would they spend $99 just to play Angry Birds on the TV? Not to mention most probably wouldn't have the technical knowledge to get the thing working to its full potential. I also can't see big name companies developing games on it, which means you won't be getting the Call of Duty crowds using it either. For the people who do have the technical knowledge, they can already do what the Ouya says it can do by modding other machines, most notably computers. I think the Ouya will appeal to a niche audience who will make some amazing mods for it but I really can't see it becoming a mainstream console.
It's going to crash and burn. I think I've already voiced my opinion of OUYA, so I don't want to repeat myself.
Not powerful enough and hardly any of those run in Linux anyway.
Or at least so I've been told...
I've posted a few times and I actually see a lot of potential in it.
I think were the really benefit might come from will be the apps, have a directly link to youtube to play music videos. People come around and queue up videos, get a dedicated playlist happening.
How it will work as a gaming system, who knows but as a nice piece of tech with a wide range of uses I can see it being cool. It just needs a couple of hero apps and I think they will not be gaming related.
Hmmmm, Digimon Re:Digitize is being released in Japan on Thursday yet there is no release date for anywhere else. Guess its time to learn Japanese.
Is Digimon even popular enough anymore to get a localised game? On the PSP? :P
It does look quite nice though...
Unfortunately it probably isn't, which makes me really sad. This game has been touted as a true sequal to the original Digimon World on PS1 and I loved that game. :(
I'll teach you all you need to learn, with terrible spelling to boot!
Katon: Goukakkyuu No Jutsu!
Kage Bunshin No Jutsu!
Hey, Das ist mein Hambourger!
Jinju Konbi Henge: Sotoro!
And now you can speak Japanese fluently.
In the words of General Douglas MacArthur - I have returned. Well actually I was back yesterday, but saying that doesn't let me quote someone.
I'm working on a write up on my trip but if it's anything like the size of the journal/photo list I kept while I was away I may have to switch it to an episodic release. Cuts down on development time, right?
We used to have a guy named Nova around here a few decades ago. Are you two related?
Keen to hear how it all went!
I've heard legends about that guys generosity, always driving people everywhere. So no, I'm nothing like him :)
Aw. I was hoping for a massive multi-page spanning novel about your trip. Oh well.
Who's this guy?
Welcome back mate ^.^
I knew someone had to say it :)
I mentioned this on the previous page, but I've been looking at buying a copy of Windows 7 so I can dual-boot my Mac desktop. I've been meaning to do it ever since I got this computer, but Steam sales have pushed me over the edge :P
Would anybody happen to know the cheapest (legal) way of buying Windows 7 (Full version, not an upgrade)? JB HiFi has it for $279 which sounds like way too much. I don't mind if I have to buy it online or in-store, or if it's a download (if you can even do that). Even if you can just recommend some reliable online stores so I can check out their prices that would be great. I'll have another look in the meantime. Thanks!
Uh pretty sure places like PC Case Gear sells copies for 100 bucks..
Or if you're a Uni student you can buy a copy from MSDNAA for 50 dollars I think? Unlimited licensing last I remember.
Yeah 95 bucks from PC Case Gear for Home Premium!
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=375_974
That's OEM. Got to buy some hardware to use with it. Not sure how strict those rules are.
You *don't* have to buy hardware with it apparently. They just say you do lols. In theory buying a hard drive or optical drive or a stick of ram is good enough for it to be considered.
Technically, you have to be building a system to sell to someone else.
I've bought a copy of WinXP in the past with a stick of RAM though :p Some stores can be sticklers about it though.
Haha yeah, I don't think Umart or PCCG are strict on what you buy it with honestly.
Yeah I was about to ask what OEM meant :P It's the same as the retail version? (They'll ship me it on a disc, etc)
$95 is a good price though. I saw some similar prices before posting this but just wasn't sure where a good place to buy it from would be.
Yeah it comes on a disc same as the other version, as bunny said it's meant to be bought by someone who building a computer to onsell to someone else, but all my mates who build their own buy OEM copies for themself.
Ahh. OK that clears it up. One last quick question: Do I want 32bit or 64bit? (I'm clueless about this sort of stuff :P) This Windows partition will be pretty much solely used to play Steam games, if that makes a difference.
If you've got any more than 4GB RAM, you'll want 64bit, as windows won't register any more than that in 32bit.
With 64bit becoming more prevalent, it's probably best that you go with it.
It has 4GB RAM and I can upgrade (I haven't had the need to yet). So I suppose in the interest of future-proofing myself I may as well go for the 64bit version? It's only $4 more from the website Virus suggested.
Absolutely man, 64's your best bet if you plan on upgrading.
Currently rocking 16GB here :P
The main deifference is that with OEN is gets locked to your motherboard. So you can't reuse that copy on another machine when you upgrade.
Generally most places will sell you an OEM version but to stay legal you can't use it on another system once it is installed. So if you are planning on upgrading in the short term probably worth looking into a full version rather than OEM
Yeah, that's a bit of a bummer. It shouldn't be too much of an issue though. I only bought this machine last year so I'll get at least a few more years out of it. Not looking to upgrade any time soon (by the time I do there will probably be a new OS version out anyway). Thanks for the extra info, though!
Grab an OEM version from a computer store.
Works out to be far cheaper.
I only paid $150 for Professional that way.
I paid $70 for an OEM version of Win7 Pro a few years ago.
Bought it from a friend of a friend that happens to work for some random tech company in Seattle ¬.¬
Nice!
Thank you very, very much Virus, Trjn, Crazyguy and Aleph. I get so confused surrounding this sort of stuff (no wonder I own a Mac :P). You all really helped!
S'all good, we're here to help! I like helping, it makes me feel useful =P
Do you just need it short term? You could always install the Windows 8 beta
Failing that, Ubuntu is pretty straightforward to install, and you can always run WINE
I have been meaning to install Windows ever since I bought this computer, I just never got around to it. So, long-ish term. I did have a quick look at Windows 8 but I thought I'd be better off going for the something more standard for now.

I'd love to, if you'd have me?
As long as you have skype, preferably a mic, and a quite place to chat without disturbances, you are IN!
I have Skype, a mic, and a quiet place to chat.

I can chat with you guys WHILE I'M IN BED! Best plan.
Awesome! add PotakuPodcast to skype.
I'll add you tonight, likely around 7:30 or so.
Oh! Me, me!

Nevermind.
Good luck with it all!
Go get a mic!
Depends on what's on topic for this week, and whether or not I can provide good input for such an amazing podcast
This week is Trophys and Achievements.
Ah righto, Steam achievements enough? haha :)
I'm not much of a console gamer these days
Metagame discussion. I'm already hype for this!
I'll let you have this one then human :) you got in first and you're more excited for this
Well, I for one, welcome our new cyborg overlords!
Cheers man, means a lot :D
Awww...I'd have been keen on that :P . Ah well. It'll be interesting to hear what other TAYbies think on the matter.
Suggestion: include past Steam holiday achievements, and the latest addition of Steam Badges.
I wish I could participate at some point but my employment situation makes it a bit dangerous.
Hey all, hope everyone is well! so is there a Kotaku-AU steam group up? if not, would probably be a great idea...
There certainly is!

Steam Sales, Day 4 cost breakdown.
Actual gifts ~ 37.88%
Helping ~ 37.90%
Actual game that I wanted and bought but forgot I already had so is now sitting in my inventory to be gifted away ~ 3.78%
Troll gifts ~ 20.44%
Watch as that last category grows over the next few days.
Last category is best category.
Troll gifts?!
YOU MEAN MAGIC CRYSTAL GIFTS, AMIRITE?!
You guys have to branch out.
Consider games such as:
- Bad Rats
- Ship Simulator Extremes
I'd lump the train sims in there too.
But hey. F40PH is one helluvva train. I'm sure there's a lot of fun to be had there ;)
I think that could be the worst gift EVER to get somebody. They might like it.
Then they have a game they really like that has $2,000 worth of DLC sitting there, taunting them.
The more people talk about that game, the more I consider wasting $1.25 on it.
It's a case of:
If I buy it for myself, I can't get gift-trolled...
but then I will have it in my Library
staring at me
with those big almond eyes, the sheen of its coat catching the mid-afternoon sun, glistening glistening with the beads of water from frolicking in the nearby brook.
I mean...
what?
Woah, I got pretty carried away with the glistening beads of water. What can I say? When I grow up, I really want to be a horse.
...poetic!
Troll gifts?! What an awesome category!
So my prediction of last week was fairly accurate, TDF induced sleep deprivation is no good for my pineapple. To date it has grown by:
Dungeon defenders DLC, Rayman origins, Saints row 3: Bells and whistles, BttF pack, Sherlock Holmes and the hounds of the baskervilles (Thanks Jo), Toy soldiers, Brink, Fallout:NV all DLC, Hunted and finally SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM (Hi Hugo)
Self 49.29%
Gifts 41.49%
Trolling 9.22%
That said, the best troll gift is one included in the same transaction as a real gift.
Guys, guys, guys, guysguysguys!
You're not going to believe this, it's a Christmas miracle!
I finished Darksiders. I've now finished 2 games this month(three if you include Octodad(which doesn't count))!
I AM THE GREETEST!
Tayfronds: I have spare copies of Terraria and Frozen Synapse somehow. Free to a good home. Anyone want?
I've been curious about Frozen Synapse so I wouldn't mind it. It seems low level enough to run on my laptop.
Frond me on Steam and I'll send it your way when I get home after work.

Wow, Aleph smashed it this week. Save some posts for the rest of us!
I think my first week was 300+ posts?
:S
My bad! I just like to talk at times!
Hey someone has to pick up the slack the twitter humans have left behind right?
Maybe I need to look into this 'Twitter' thing all the kids seem to be using these days...
You want to be a Twit, human? :P
There seems to be some numbers missing
Oh?
Whoops!
Sorry Klutar... I failed at copy/pasting:

Holy crap! I posted last week?! I don't even remember!
Playing TAY catchup before midday on Monday.
I'm so sorry guys.
Anyway, hope everyone had an awesome fun time weekend. I did. Played more Skyrim and picked up a few Steam Sale games (Saint's Row 3 and Blood Bowl off my wishlist; strong-armed into Crusader Kings 2 and Alien Water) instead of Shameless Gaming. I don't really feel bad about it, since I had fun, I finally got a character to level 25 on Skyrim, so I must be progressing. Might grab Mount and Blade, hoping ARMA 2 goes on Flash Sale.
I also played a lot of Pokémon - just not Conquest. I went back to Black and White after only a day or two of Conquest and I've been catching and hatching and training some new pokes. Also Dream World, making friends and growing berries, plus there's a Porygon promotion at the moment.
Not too long until BW2 come out! :D I've been avoiding all news lately because I want the changes to be a surprise (trying to replicate a 'Kanto in Gold/Silver' feeling here :P). Can't wait!
I'm really liking Conquest though. Much more than I initially did.
NO SPOILERS
Oh man, I've been reading up on B2W2 (odd, since I do tend to try and be spoiler free in almost every other game/movie/book/etc) and it looks like it is going to be grrreat.
Since I'm so far behind the curve on this one, whats conquest like? On in even more general terms, Whats Conquest?
Hah, you really have been gone a while! Pokemon Conquest is the localised name of that Nobunaga's Ambition crossover game for DS.
Have you ever played a turn-based tactics game like Fire Emblem or Advanced Wars? Well it's similar to that, but with Pokémon. It's pretty simple compared to others, but still pretty good. Go read up on it! (Good Game did a review of it last week as well)
A few TAYbies have been playing it and seem generally positive on it. Personally it's probably my favourite Pokemon spin off game (because I love these types of strategy games so much :P)
I don't own a 3DS and have never played a Pokemon game, but if I did I'd go for the Nobunaga's Ambition crossover ahead of the rest.
It's actually a DS game. I'm playing it on my Lite.
Oh. Well I could get that then I guess. But I feel dirty when I buy DS games.
Never played any of those sort of games, but hey its Pokemon, so I'll probably try it out at some point
I need to add you on steam. For science and so forth.
Totally not just for troll gifting.
I'm in the Kotaku AU group, as Mawt, my id/username/steamname/whatever is probably hound_eye
I picked up Max Payne 3!
Then Steam discounted it further an hour later so I paid $15 too much.
And when I finish the first opening bit, after rescuing the boss guy from the van, the game grinds to a half mid cutscene and locks up completely. Every time. :( It was buttery smooth before that so I assume it's actually a bug. Also every time I log in it makes me re-activate my CD key (what the fuck is a limited-activation system doing on a Stream distributed game anyway?) so I assume eventually just trying to play my single player game, I'm going to run out of activations and be locked out.
Super disappointed in this.
If it's too much of a hassle you can get a refund
I actually am tempted, but the gameplay itself seems pretty good and it's not as if my machine can't run it when it actually works.
But IMO Steam really needs to have in big letters on the page that it includes always-online limited-activation DRM in addition to Steam.
It's a new subscription-based business model. You wanna play your single-player game? Pay us the full retail price every three months, or you can't.
Considering I currently have three MMOs with active subscriptions, this isn't really 'new'. But it does seem like it's setting a fairly terrible precedent. Steam alone should be enough.
I thought it was day 1 DLC being the new trend :P
I still don't understand what's so terrible about Day 1 DLC. Games hit release and go into certification months before the release date, putting people on DLC means they don't have to fire half their staff between projects.
I mean sure, when it's stuff that was on the disc anyway and you're just buying an unlock like Crapcom locking costumes and whatnot? Fuck that. But actual proper additional content I have absolutely no problem with and I honestly don't understand why anyone does.
That said, where the hell is my Mass Effect 3 DLC? I want more content for the game, not expansion of an ending that I didn't really mind, or piles of additional crap for a multiplayer mode I haven't and will never touch.
Yeah for some humans it's not a problem, but for me I only find DLC acceptible post-launch, unless it's cosmetic-only stuff like clothing, gun skins, whatever. With Mass Effect 3, the controversy that went down was the whole some single player campaign content pulled out as day 1 DLC (Which also was proven to be on-disc DLC too on PC I might add). Basically it doesn't inspire trust for some humans that got mad about it, including a robot like me. Therefore, I made the decision not to get it at full price. I'm waiting for it to become much cheaper, which it has so I'll get it eventually.
And by what I said on the bottom, I wasn't one that god mad, I meant the "doesn't inspire trust" part...
ME3 was delayed from its original launch date. Most likely they had a team free early that worked on the Prothean DLC on their original schedule, and since it was mostly done they stuck most of the assets onto the disc to save bandwidth costs (releasing content on XBL/PSN costs a fair bit, especially when you take into account the number of people playing). I don't understand the whole conspiracy theory around that particular example.
But maybe it's because I come from a software development background, work on a product that has extremely aggressive ship schedules and because I picked up the CE for ME3 anyway so I got that content for 'free'.
It just made no sense why they didn't stick to the ME2 style of handing out free DLC for those who bought the game new with the cerberus key. I thought that was a killer idea.
They decided to gate the multiplayer feature no one wanted or asked for behind it instead. :\
yeah... Look I won't ever crucify someone for getting the CE or the DLC, I just stick by my own principles, and my principles are being against companies who do Day 1 DLC
Oh man, I swear those cut-scenes are so dodgy. I was starting the 4th act I think and after the cutscene had ended the word "failed" popped up on my screen. I tried to retry and the gale froze. When I force closed Max Payne and reloaded my save i was still on the previous act. :/
... Gale? Really phone gale?
* sigh*
Hope Warband goes on sale on Steam, so more people can get it and eventually we can have a TAYbie-only battle. 64 players with medieval weaponry!
I'd be up for this
Me too. Also big thanks to Jo who purchased the Mount And Blade collection for me! What a guy!
64 players? Holy crap, that sounds AWESOME!
It's already 75% off right now, I doubt it's going to get any cheaper :P
Don't think I'll buy it though. Haven't played much of F&S yet.
Good point!
Everyone buy it! (if you have a spare $5)
Alright Rize, how about this: You buy me a copy, and I will sit here and insult you. Does that sound fair? Sounds fair to me!
Best plan.
If you're willing to actually play it, sure!
Me play a game, what are you, stupid?
And ugly.
And umm. Yeah.
Hey, remember the last time you talked about this and I called it a left-click fest and you were all "Sure, if you want to die" and questioned if I had even played the game, somehow both acknowledging but completely missing my joke?
Good times.
You should accept that it was an awful joke, and that I am intelligent and attractive.
Thanks every one for the birthday wishes!
Ahh. Happy Birthday!
(Late to the party :P)
Happy birthday!
(Later than Pow)
Happy Birthday
(Later than those who have commented before. Earlier than those who comment after)
First!
EDIT: or fourth!
also, Happy Birthday!
Hah! I'm not falling for that one again! :P
Sign me up to the list of latecomers!Super happy joyful to you!
@beavwa, @strange RE: Music, Page 1
Lyrics are certainly the primary consideration for me with my music choice, for the most part. A great example of lyrics really pulling through would be Circle Takes the Square's work. In particular, check out their song "A Non-Objective Portrait of Karma". Sheer lyrical genius, and while I love the musical dissonance that goes along with it, I feel the lyrics really shine through.
With that said, sometimes the lyrics really don't have any effect on me, and it's just a good tune (Aussie band "Ennui Breathes Malice" has some AWESOME stuff, by far the most brutal breakdowns I've come across) that really gets my heart pumping.
I quite enjoy stuff from the "prettier" side of things too. I've had Alanis Morrisette and Regina Spektor playing on repeat for the past week or so, for example.
What're your thoughts on black metal, by the way? (The likes of Dimmu Borgir, etc.)
I've got fairly narrow tastes still, since it generally takes word of mouth from friends to introduce me to new things. Not very familiar with black metal.
Lyrics aren't really my thing either - I don't really hear them the first few times I listen to a song. I guess that's what is drawing me towards the more symphonic stuff.
I really can't help you with the symphonic stuff. My suggestions would be Sonata Arctica and perhaps that Nightwish-but-not-Nightwish band... The name will come to me at some point.
Black metal (it may be a stretch, but I can see the connection) has some ties with classical/symphonic stylings. Although it typically sounds like it's been recorded in a bathroom.
I've gotten to the point where I'm experimenting more and more with not just metal, but everything. "Mathcore" and other derivatives of hardcore music really take my fancy currently, as they really do seem to push the envelope.
I initially thought it was all crap, and they were just throwing instruments around a room and recording the destruction. But after witnessing it live, I was blown away. So much more technical than other variants under the "metal" umbrella.
Lacuna Coil!
I most often don't care about the lyrics, it's the use of a voice as an instrument rather than specific words/themes that draw me in.
That said, often the lyrics can ruin a song if they're ridiculous (see: Sonata Arctica's 'A S**tload of Money' off their latest. Good song, but I can't listen to it often because it's silly.
Amd Aleph, Lacuna Coil have more in common with the likes of Evanescence than they do Nightwish. I think that may be the first time I've heard them described as "Nightwish-but-not-Nightwish". :P
Their mid stuff like Unleashed Memories or Comalies is probably their best, then they got a bit too...Rock-y for me, but their latest: 'Dark Adrenaline' is really quite good.
Comalies is the only album I'm familiar with, to be honest. All I remember is sunflowers :P (Or was it daisies?)
Dark Adrenaline just makes me think of Dark Tranquility, although audibly, they're far from similar :P
Gothenburg's finest!
You and I seem to have very different tastes, if this discussion is anything to go by ^.^
Occasionally, silly lyrics actually MAKE the song though! Check out "Bunnies" by HORSE The Band. Such a great example of silly lyrics working in the favour of the song.
Yeah, my husband loves Dark Tranquility. One of his favourite memories of both 70000 tons cruises is from the first one when he was at the Dark Tranquility show up the front and the singer screamed right in his face. :P
Oh, speaking of the cruises, http://www.bargetohell.com/ may be more to your taste. 70000 tons of metal organisers branching out and doing a heavier-only cruise.
And yeah our tastes may be a bit different. :P I tend to like epic things though. Epic music, epic games, epic books, epic movies....
Hai Guys!
Thought i might drop by and see how everyone is doing! :D
so....
How is everyone doing!?!?
I haven't bought ANY games on the steam sale, and i'm not going to! (Aside from Jo and Beavwa each gifting me a game - thanks again guys, you're awesome!) - BUT i did spend almost $50 on some new paints, weathering pigments and a couple of other bits and pieces.
It would seem i have the painting bug again!
I'm part of the way through a corpse cart - look how disgusting this thing looks! :D

ARJ BARKER WAS THE SUPPORT ACT!
THEY WERE ALL FUCKING AMAZING!!!
My life now feels that much more whole,..
YOU! Your'e still alive!!! :D
SPACE MAURINE was on sale on steam recently for $12...I didn't buy it.
...
...
Crazyguy gifted me a copy though :P
PLAY IT, MAN!
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
Oh man, I'd love to be able to paint miniatures again - I have 0 space. That cart is looking good.
You and me both.
I have a temp setup on my dining room table
Hey, they are playing twister. Nice job so far
Dear internet:
Complaining about things or situations that are shit when there's no good reason that they're shit aside from incompetence, stupidity or laziness does not make the complainer 'entitled'.
It seems the definition of entitlement is becoming blurred these days. Self-entitlement typically refers narcissistic beliefs, yes. But that doesn't make the person entitled, you're right.
I think a line needs to be drawn between "entitlement" and "self-entitlement".
I'm entitled to my opinion, though that doesn't mean it's right :P
The idea that gamers are entitled is misleading. The "gamers" this refers to are (I would envisage) the self-entitled 12yo playing CoD on XBL, spamming the voice-chat with all manner of obscenities they've just learned last week.
I always have a pang of confusion when reading that I'm part of an entitled group.
I assume you've been to Gizmodo today, I wrote a paragraph explaining how I feel but decided not to post. Futile. :P
One of my comments was deemed innapropriate :S
OOPS!
I am indeed talking about the crying child at the bottom of the page.
When I first read this post I thought you were referring to one of the commentors
I hope this Monday finds you well!
Any one here import Nike+ Fuelband? If so, thoughts?
Ok, so write up definitely won't be done any time soon. I'm barely to day 3 out of 30 and I still have to link in photos etc. I think I'm gonna do it a country at a time, keep everyone in suspense. I should have Iceland ready to go for tomorrow. And don't worry Powalen, you'll still be getting your multi-page epic - Its already on its 4th page in Word. Don't even want to think about how long it will look like on TAY.
I like the one post per country idea.
Prepare to beat my total word count for the past month in one post!
Dear steam,
I kindly suggest you stop flaunting your stuff at me... I frankly can't afford any of your offerings and for each game I turn down I cry myself to sleep... So put some decent clothes on and stop offering me things...
Regards
Me
I hear there's a sale on.
You should check it out.
There's a sale on... You should buy me everything cause you love me and pinkie pie demands it!
Woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head. Made my way down stairs, and drank a cup. Looking up, I noticed I was late. Found my coat, and grabbed my hat, made the bus, in seconds flat. Found my way upstairs and had a smoke, then somebody spoke and I went in to a dream....
Broke free of time loop?
Also, watch it. You may find that your house burns down and you fall through the floor.
Smokin's bad, mmkay?
Woo I had to catch up on TAY for the first time in ages!
Hmmm random thoughts :)... (feel free to ignore)
Thanks for the L4D2/Killing Floor help. I'll look into L4U when the download finishes and hopefully we can start up some co-op funtimes ASAP. This is my first Steam sale and my first sale with the TAYbies. Man you guys are amazing :D <3. So many gifts! This is also the first sale where I've really started to use my PC (I had a really bad graphics card until a few months ago) so I got to catch up on some pretty good PC games as well as cheap games I never picked up on consoles.
I was playing some MGS3 (HD collections) before and I think I've nearly finished it! I was playing a bit before lunch and it just carried on and on, cutscene after cutscene and I was getting really hungry :P. Sometimes I'll 'accidentally' finish games when I don't think I'm near the end when I actually am. Luckily it wasn't a huge string of big events and there was a 'calm' sort of section that allowed me to save and quit. I've been doing well this SGM, probably beat around 5 or so games already :).
I posted in last TAY that I missed the deadline to respond to this email I received (based on my "high academic performance" about a scholarship. I sent an email anyway on Saturday and they replied today saying it wasn't too late to apply so I'll probably do that later this week :). I guess I'm fairly smart but boy oh boy I have a bad work ethic :P. I'm fairly lazy when it comes to academic stuff and I've been extremely lazy in terms of Uni, I really have no idea how my grades are so good... The scholarship sounds kind of boring (something about IBM, uh I dunno...) but the main thing is that the scholarship will give me $36,000 over two years! (sounds like a lot to me but I dunno :P). I MUST GET THIS SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE MONEY SO I CAN, AND WILL BUY ALL THE TAYBIES, ALL THE GAMES.
KOTAKU HAS A NEW COMPETITION Z0MG!111!one!1! There hasn't been one in ageesssss. I think the last official one was Max Payne 3 swag? I'm not interested in the prize but good luck to those who enter! I love me some competitions and it was actually the reason I started to post in Kotaku. Back in the day I figured since there's only like 20 entries in each comp, I had a pretty good chance to win (I actually did win some!), but dat Chuloopa... gotta watch out for him!
I got my license test on Friday so hopefully I pass :). I'm a good driver but I was having a drive yesterday and 3 times people turned when there wasn't enough time, causing me to swerve and brake... c'mon people LEARN HOW TO DRIVE. I never realised how bad people were until I started driving. And for some reason I don't really want to play any games with cars or races in them cause I feel like it's making me bad :P.
Weeeee probably other stuff I didn't mention but I find typing random things helps pass the time :).
Basically (TL;DR)
- I have to get a scholarship to earn monies and buy TAYbies games
- I'd like to play some co-op games sometime soon
- You're pretty cool
- I get bored often
Hopefully you'll get the scholarship and pass the license test. Fingers crossed :-)
I can't wait until we have Driveius to take us to all the Meats.
What is this light?
It's far too bright for my tastes.
Also, hello.
DON'T HEAD TOWARD THE LIGHT!!!
Of ALL the entities/deities/demigods to get accepted to pass through the pearly gates, you're chosen?
I mean, sure, you seem to have toned it down a little, but really... The Unspeakable Horror can't be allowed to further torment those he has destroyed aeons prior, surely?
Unless God was indeed a darwinist, and has deemed you worthy of his company due to the great service you have done not unto Earth, but the entire universe. Idiocy is a plague far greater than that which we have ever known.
I guess you're just misunderstood, Cthulhu.
Still, don't head towards it just yet. Stay a while, I made tea.
...we'll miss you.
... Gates?
All I can see is a big orange ball and some white puffy things....
That orange ball isn't important or anything, right?
Dare you to eat it.
My doctor suggested to lay off the spicy foods, so I think I'll give it a miss.
You have anything else as big as that ball that's a little less intense?
Nah, you should be fine to snuff that out if it's bothering you.
It only provides us with a stable foundation upon which we orbit, a nurturing light within which we may grow, and cultivate that which photosynthesizes.
Really, it's fine.
In fact, I dare say it would be fine, so long as you promised to stay in its place. Your rage is equal to that of one thousand exploding suns, so I'm certain if we simply moved back a bit, you'd make a fine substitute. We'd have to rename our planetary cluster to the Cthulhu-system, but that's a small price to pay. The only question is, just how big are you? Is your mass roughly equivalent to our sun?
(HOLY CRAP, Cthulhu is actually our sun. The world makes sense now!)
