Project X Zone Puts The ‘Cross’ Into Crossover

Project X Zone is the mega-crossover game from Capcom, Namco-Bandai, and Sega starring a staggering list of characters — ranging from Street Fighter to Devil May Cry, Tekken to Tales of Vesperia, and Space Channel 5 to Valkyria Chronicles 3 (among many others). And today at the Tokyo Game Show, we at Kotaku got to spend some hands-on time with it.

Much like Namco-Bandai’s most famous mega-crossover series, Super Robot Wars, Project X Zone is a turn-based strategy game. Unlike Super Robot Wars however, Project X Zone is far more hands-on than simply picking an attack and watching a complex animation unfold. In battle, you control a pair of characters in a real-time battle system like in the older games of the Tales series — where you perform different attacks to try and create long combos. The trick is that you only have a set amount of time to perform your combos. After that, the game moves on to the next unit’s turn in standard TRPG fashion.

While I only had time to play one battle, it was very fun and looks to be a game for TRPG fans and crossover fans alike.
