Tales Of Xillia 2 Plays Exactly Like The First Game (And That Isn’t A Bad Thing)

Today at the Tokyo Game Show, Kotaku spent some time with the newest game in the Tales series, Tales of Xillia 2. It looks, plays, and feels like the first Tales of Xillia — and this is in no way a bad thing.

The demo begins by letting you choose to party with one of two different groups made up of characters from the first game. Together with Xillia‘s new protagonist, Ludger, you fight your way through a facility and end up battling a summon spirit to close out the demo.

As for the gameplay, the original Xillia debuted a new version of the Tales battle system that pairs up party members to double team enemies and perform special attacks. The system remains in place in Xillia 2 and works just as well. The battles were frantic and fun with each character having a myriad of usable abilities.

So if the demo is to be believed, Tales of Xillia 2 looks to be another solid entry in the Tales series. To see it in action, check out the video above.
