Rejoice! BioShock Infinite Won’t Require Games For Windows Live

It was an unwelcome visitor in 2K Marin’s BioShock 2 and with BioShock Infinite, the next game in line, close to completion, it’s fair to ask whether Games For Windows Live (GFWL) is expected to make a repeat appearance. According to Irrational’s creative director Ken Levine, the answer is a clear “nope”.

Fielding a question on Twitter regarding the much maligned online service, Levine had no problems quelling the fears of the masses:

I’ve heard GFWL has eradicated saved games and profiles and devoured the souls of small animals and children. Personally, I’ve never had a problem with it. Sure, it’s an annoying, mostly unnecessary layer and making an offline profile isn’t exactly spelled out, but with one set up you don’t have to worry about weird connectivity issues.

That said, I’m certainly not an advocate. The less bloat, the better and seeing as Infinite is a single-player affair — unlike BioShock 2 — the benefits of GFWL are debatable.
