Nvidia Officially Outs The World’s Fastest Mobile Processor

So there I was, prepping a post on Nvidia’s Tegra 4 processor, the successor to the Tegra 3 with six times the graphics processing power and all sorts of nifty advancements that really seem boring now compared to the Shield portable gaming device.

The Tegra 4 features 72 GeForce GPU cores — at least 10 times the amount of GPU cores I have in my pockets right now. It’s got the world’s first quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU, which makes it incredibly fast at loading web pages, and it’s got some HDR camera technology that was neat but agonizingly boring to watch as we waited for something more interesting to come on.

In short, it’s faster and more powerful. Yay! Back to the Shield. Here’s some bullet points.

· 72 custom NVIDIA GeForce GPU cores — six times the GPU horsepower of Tegra 3 — for more realistic gaming experiences and higher resolution displays

· The first quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU- for 2.6x faster web browsing and breakthrough performance for apps

· Worldwide 4G LTE voice and data support through an optional chipset- the NVIDIA Icera i500 modem processor

· New computational photography capabilities — dramatically enhancing mobile imaging for HDR photos and video

· Superb power efficiency, with a second-generation battery saver core and PRISM 2 display technology — giving up to 14 hours of HD video playback on smartphones
