Watch Video Games Get Beaten In Record Time For A Good Cause

SpeedDemosArchive — home to amazingly, high-speed video game playthroughs by talented players — is entering the last day of its Awesome Games Played Quick marathon, where viewers can donate money to help fund cancer prevention research.

Players will be picking up gamepads to try and beat old and new classics faster than anyone else has ever done. So far, they’ve blown through Doom I and II, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Shadow Complex over the last few days. Various runners will be tackling four Legend of Zelda games including the infamous Zelda II, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Pokemon Gold. Just today, I watched speedrunner FunkDoc finish up a run on Super Castlevania IV that obliterates — according to him — the fastest Japanese time on that game.

Witnessing that was something special. It’s a thrilling thing to watch someone who knows a game inside and out blow through it in record time. So, head on over to SpeedDemosArchive and watch the livestream. And, if you’re moved to donate to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, you’ll be doing something awesome to help defeat one of modern medicine’s unbeatable bosses.
