Fumito Ueda Finally Breaks His Silence About The Last Guardian

There always seems to be silence when it come to The Last Guardian. Silence punctuated by a couple of comments every now and then. This statement, made by Fumito Ueda on his own site is one of those moments when there isn't silence. He actually says stuff! And even addresses the game's release date...

But of course we leave knowing much the same as we did before.

"As some of you may have heard," he begins, "I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, I continue working on THE LAST GUARDIAN as a freelance contributor.

"While it’s been a long time coming, THE LAST GUARDIAN remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team."

Phew, well that's good to know. The game is still in development at least and Ueda is still heavily involved it seems. And as for that release date...

"I should also mention that details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN's release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself," he said. "Please keep an eye out for their official announcement."

Hopefully this means that an announcement regarding the release date of The Last Guardian is coming sooner rather than later.

... this would not be the worst thing ever. If it's not a PS4 announcement (or even if it is), I hope you're right! :)

PS4 isn't real, it's been an announcement for The Last Guardian all along!

As a launch title for the PS4... Only reason I can think for the constant delays.

It will be announced that it's now a Vita exclusive.

"Vita finally has games. Sales skyrocket"

          I'd buy one for it.

That would be the worst thing for me.

Wouldn't it be funny if development focus was pushed to the PS4 and then it yet again had years of delays after that?....... Wait, no it wouldn't...... *sigh*

Feb 20th we will hear something hopefully.

Waiting for will be a next gen title announcement....

Game will be on par with both ICO and SOTC, but will ultimately be seen as a failure as hype levels for the game are just at insane levels now.

does anyone think this could be the case for Half Life 3 as well?

Can you really imagine a Half-Life game being mediocre? Even if it's not as good as 2 or 1, it'll still be one of the best games ever made.

I feel The Last Guardian will work the same way.

          I hope so :-)

While both would be preferable, upvote for a Last Guardian release date on Feb 20, downvote for a PS4 announcement.

I'm downvoting because I don't like "thumbs up because I'm right!" style comments, not downvoting to participate in your stupid voting exercise.

      Just thought I would clarify.

      Go back to Facebook, loser.

Breaks his silence to say hurry up and wait. Keep on truckin Ueda.

Inspired by EA and their take on Dead Space 3, the game will sacrifice less emotional moments and player connections to the characters while increasing the action and including a cover based system.

      Don't even joke about that.

It's funny since LG doesn't have any guns or that much action in the way of combat. I would like to read a comic strip about it though lol

    Well that's...good news?

So... Can I have it now, Mr Ueda? Please?

I can't see the game being on PS4 OR not living up to the hype. This is Team Ico we're talking about, not Gearbox & DNF. I have a very strong feeling it may just be one of those rare games that will exceed expectations.

To me it seems like they're polishing it as much as possible to ensure it is worthy of being in the same league as Ico and SOTC.

while I agree it won't be a let down, it being a PS4 title is increasingly likely. The game HAD a firm release date and there was a lot of talk about how much trouble they were having with the PS3 hardware, not only how difficult it was to work with but also with pushing it's boundaries. The huge delay and the complete silence is a solid indicator of the move to the PS4, and while I pray to god it isn't true it would be a marketing move of evil genius proportions if they do so.

As long as the wait has been... I'm not exactly happy to hear Sony will be forcing a release date. I'd much prefer 'it's done when it's done'. Still good to have the silence broken though.

on Feb 20th is the day sony releases....the release date for the PS4 TROLOLOL

Please be a PS Vita title now, haha

I hope the long development hasn't turned the game into another DNF or Colonial Marines.
