As someone who remembers old box art this brilliant gallery, put together by Games Radar, is an absolute belter. It reimagines the box art of current gen video games and makes it look super old. I am dying.
I know this is really old (almost three months old in fact) but if you haven’t seen it, you’ll thank me. It is so, so good.
My personal favourite, for some reason, is the FIFA one.
Oh no, wait. It’s the Skate one. Oh gawd. This is the most amazing thing ever.

As the author of the original piece mentions briefly, the actual images used are not new but are from old games, modified with the new titles. For example, I recognise the Monster Hunter Tri one as Pools of Radiance, and GTA V is from APB. I remember seeing some of the others but can’t put a name to them.
Personal favourite is Skyrim – that dragon image is sooooo cheesy.
FYI: All of the old titles used are listed underneath the pictures.
I do remember the Barbarian one (for obvious reasons). I really liked that game too. It was Mortal Kombat before Mortal Kombat!
EDIT: Never mind, I’m an idiot… didn’t read the article properly 😛
The ME3 one looked great!
Game covers definitely had more character than the dross we get today. Arkham City GOTY cover anyone? I’m off to ebay to track down 80s games and a spectrum. In the meantime, I’ll leave this here of one of my favourite games

Hahahaha, those are great!
Agreed, old covers really did seem to have more character and style to them. I kinda liked the Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam cover because it reminded me of that old style art. Same with the US Wii cover for Metal Slug Anthology.
The Skate cover cracks me up too. Demon’s Souls is amusing.
