Sony has acknowledged — and apologized for — a leak of Grand Theft Auto V files yesterday that revealed the game’s main theme and its soundtrack, among other details., potentially.
“We sincerely apologise to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content,” Sony said on the official PlayStation blog.
Yesterday, a digital file of the game was inadvertently made available through the Europe PlayStation Store to those who had preordered the game there. Gamers mined the files for details, discovering the main theme and other features (warning: there are spoilers at that link and potentially in the comments beneath).
Bottom line, there is spoiler material out in the wild, and if you don’t want any aspect of the game ruined for you, don’t go googling for it.
Here’s the entirety of Sony’s statement.
Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets. These assets were posted online. We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe. We sincerely apologise to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. GTA V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we’re looking forward to a historic launch on September 17.

So they do something nice and make a pre-download available so everyone isn’t trying to download 17Gb (made this figure up) on release day and some tossers have to go and hack it and post spoilers on the ‘net.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
(Edit: just read @shadow post – he said it first)
Yeah man, I would love to pre-load games so I could start playing at midnight cause
1. I hate midnight launch lines. The 3 punch combo of fedoras, Asics shoes and body odor really bugs me.
2. I have mates who live in Perth where midnight launches are illegal so I feel like an asshole sending them pictures of me holding the game we all have blue balls for … and I just can’t stop.
Seriously though, I really hope publishers don’t shy away from pre-loads because of a few wankers.
Out of interest, why are midnight launches illegal in WA?
Not 100% sure. A friend of mine told me that retailers risk fines if they hold midnight launches. Perhaps it’s an insurance/litigation issue
All I know of GTAV is that some of it was released. People are mentioning the “track list” being crap.
Since this news broke, I’ve done no searching. My ignorance of the contents of GTAV remains the same. I guess I can have nice things. =)
maybe a bit too early….
The only thing that sucks is how awful the soundtrack is, for 99% of the time I was listening to the chat stations in GTA IV, in my opinion SA had the best radio stations and I hope their chat stations are more like WCTR then what IV gave us.
Anyways, the game has gone gold so no more unexpected delays.
It’s okay, I’m pretty sure that cant be all the tracks as its only 7 radio stations.
I always find the talk radio stations in GTA to be much more entertaining than the music anyway.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves the chat stations. Also, some of the ads are really funny too. I love the ad in Vice City that’s about an amazing new video game where you guide the green dot on a huge adventure.
I would love the option for the game to stream live internet radio via the game – why cant we have this?
Or at least Rockstar could have some live stream radio stations where they can freshen up the track list and other bits of commentary
For some reason, the games set in Liberty City have awful soundtracks. Already, the leaked list is better than any of those. Also yeah WCTR was epic! I hope its back!
Why is there no Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd? :O
Also if that’s the track list, I don’t normally say this… but that’s kind of shit.
I swear I must be the only one that thinks the tracklist is pretty good..
