This Roulette Table Is My Favourite Gundam Battlefield Ever

About a month back, the PlayStation 3 got its newest Gundam video game. But unlike past Gundam video games, this one takes place not in a fictional future full of giant robots but rather in a modern day setting where Gundams are small-scale plastic models.

In the game itself, you go to an arcade, put the Gundam model parts you’ve gathered into a simulator, and then build and pilot your own Gundam alongside other players. There is great variety in the Gundams you can build — as you can attach any head to any body and so forth from across dozens of models — and each battle you win nets you more parts that you can use to customise your Gundam.

But the most enjoyable part of the game is how, the fact that these are models — and not giant robots — is referenced when they are in battle. Sometimes, you can blow off an opponent’s arm or leg and add it to your collection. Other times you will come across a boss where the model is two times bigger than yours. But my personal favourite is how sometimes the battlefields aren’t realistic landscapes, but are instead places where you might play with a 1/144 scale model — like a hobby table or a roulette wheel.

Gundam Breaker was released on June 27, 2013, for the PlayStation 3 in Japan. There is currently no word on a Western release. Stay tuned for our import preview later this week.
