If you’re trying to figure out when Microsoft’s next console will come out in North America, today has provided a new clue. Note that the following post is all educated guesswork and observation.
This is what we know: The Xbox One will be released in November. When in November? Microsoft hasn’t said yet.
We also know that the PlayStation 4 will be out in North America on Friday, November 15.
What else do we know?
As of today, Microsoft has confirmed which games will be out on launch day for the Xbox One. That list includes both Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts and Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs. Ghosts comes out on November 5, but Watch Dogs won’t be out until November 19. Of all of the games on Microsoft’s launch list today, Watch Dogs has the latest confirmed release date.
So there are five scenarios:
1) The Xbox One comes out between November 1 and November 14, with Watch Dogs launching earlier on Xbox One than it will on any other platforms, including PS4, which is getting timed-exclusive levels for it. THIS IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY
2) The Xbox One comes out between November 15, on the same day as the PS4. UNLIKELY. MICROSOFT AND SONY WOULD BE HYPING EACH OTHER’S RELEASE DATES. TOO WEIRD
3) The Xbox One comes out between November 16 and November 18, launching before the PC and current gen versions but after PS4. MAYBE, BUT SEEMS TOO CLOSE TO PS4
4) The Xbox One comes out between November 19 and November 29, on or after the release of the other versions of Watch Dogs but not after Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. SEEMS LIKELY
5) The Xbox One will launch on November 30, missing Black Friday by a day. RIDICULOUS. NOT HAPPENING
No one official will nail this down for us, of course.
A rep for Xbox told us today that “we haven’t announced a specific date. We’ve only confirmed that Xbox One will launch in 13 markets around the world in November 2013.”
As for Ubisoft, a spokesperson simply said: “Watch Dogs is still slated for release on November 19 for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. The game will also be available on PS4 and Xbox One when those systems launch.”

Nov 5th. Same day as COD: Ghosts.
Nov 5th, same day as COD: Ghosts.
Internet scuttlebutt reckons november 21st and the internet hasn’t led me astray yet.
thats just the date that watch_dogs is meant to be out on all current platforms… PS4 is now confirmed for a week later on the 29th… so i doubt it’ll be 21st for xbox one
Please fall into December. If only for the flame wars.
Let me grab my marshmallows
If you are going to post US stories about the X1 release date. Can you please alter the story to reflect the Australian release date?
I’m planning to have a cod Lan on the 30th on Nov…as long as its out before then I’m happy 😀
It would surely come out same day as Ghosts, but the confirmed launch with Watch Dogs does raise questions. JUST ANNOUNCE THE DATE MICROSOFT!
PlayStation launches before scheduled Watch Dogs release as well, if they’re getting it earlier there’s no reason Xbox wouldn’t. My bet it is Watch Dogs will release for next gen first, it’s been about the next gen since it debuted at E3 2012.
I have a friend who has a friend in pr at ms and she tld him same day. Nov 15.
