Voice Actor Is Sorry for Crushing Your Half-Life 3 Dreams

Last week, Half-Life 2 voice actor John Patrick Lowrie said that Half-Life 3 wasn't being worked on. Since Lowrie has appeared in many Valve games over the years, his comments were taken seriously. Now, Lowrie says he misspoke.

"My comments just seemed to cause a whole bunch of confusion and when I tried to minimise the confusion I misspoke and caused a whole bunch more confusion," said Lowrie on his blog, via CVG.

"The most important thing to know about voice actors is that we're the last to know anything," he continued. "We don't find out about a project until we get hired to do voices for it.

"What I was trying to say before (and failed) is that whatever Gabe Newell has to say about a project is the best info you're going to get. He owns the company and knows what's going on."

"Sorry that I gave the impression that I know what's going on. I really wasn't trying to and I really don't know."

So this guy says he doesn't really know what's going on. That means one thing: keep that Half-Life3 dream alive!

Reading this gives me hope again and thus makes this the greatest day of my life so far. Only to be exceeded by the day HL3 will come out.

I don't know why he is apologizing. Shit happens, he didn't ruin anyone's day.

Apart from hyper-reactionaries on the Internet. But y'know. I doubt there's a day that goes by where SOMETHING doesn't ruin it for them. :)

Spot on. Just look at DayZ. There's a review for a milestone and something fails, All hell breaks loose, and fans call Rocket an asshole. For a simple fact that, the network code isn't working as it should. So he won't release the alpha, yet.

I've never actually played the HL series, should I wait until it comes out until I play the HL series or play the series now and torture myself waiting for HL3?

      Totally worth playing.

Try http://www.blackmesasource.com/ which is a remake of HL1 using the Source Engine. Then jump to HL2.

If you're more of a console gamer then probably best to find a cheap copy of HL2 via the Orange Box.

play the original none on this remake business. Then play all of 2.
Original has that retro charm to it these days.

I think the series is the victim of too many years of built-up hype. If you're playing it for the first time, as I did in the last year or so, you'll probably wonder what all of the fuss is about. I personally got bored and never finished either of them.

Yea that seems to be true of a lot of older games these days. If you can't tap into some mystic source of nostalgia, you won't understand all the praise.

Half Life 3 is going to be the Duke Nukem of 2025 - delayed till it becomes a joke, and then just be really shit compared to other titles.

I'm slightly worried about this, but it's Valve we're talking about. They have a track record of really good stuff. I doubt they'll pervert this title.

But as Confucius said, if we keep our expectations low, we can't get disappointed. OK, he didn't say that. I made it up. But still, it holds true. :P

Yeah... I still feel a bit shifty with them after the whole Left 4 Dead 2 debacle.

Replace 'f' with 't' and you've got how I am with them about that debacle.

We're talking about the Australian version of the game yeah? Man oh man did that suck. I had an overseas copy so it didn't affect me at the time, but I did snag a cheap sub $10 local copy and the difference was huge!

As in, the local copy was plain shit.

Well, the fact that HL3 hasn't even been confirmed to exist (as opposed to screenshots/trailer every couple years and "yes, we're still working on it")

Either that or it comes out the minute everyone goes quiet about it, which will never happen :p

I wouldn't put it past the valve crew to surprise everyone. We all wake up, log into steam and BAM! it's suddenly there and ready to play.

Still haven't had Gordon Freeman's voice actor say that Half life 3 isn't being worked one, thus confirmed.

I have insider information that is absolutely 100% correct! Truth guaranteed!

New Orange box, called the Orange box cubed (orange to the power of 3) which has Half Life 3, Portal 3 and Left 4 Dead 3. Valve is going to over-deliver so as to meet everyone's crazy expectations - it's the only way!

Ugh... all sequels? Are they incapable of releasing anything new?

Although I agree with you somewhat, I'd also like to point out that they have made a wide variety of really amazing games. Half Life, Team Fortress, L4D, Portal and Dota 2 are all VERY different games. Also, there haven't been many new IPs recently from anybody. Dishonoured comes to mind from Arkane, and then a few smaller studios, but the industry as a whole prefers to refine and iterate. The industry prefers to do that because PLAYERS prefer to buy that. Can't argue with money unfortunately.

I want new IP too, but I do love me a good sequel! I'd personally prefer to see sequels to HL, L4D and Portal before I'd like to see a new IP from Valve. In fact I think I'd be a bit annoyed if they announced a completely new IP before they give me another go in the HEV suit.

EDIT: Nintendo on the other hand... please flex that creative muscle on something new and exciting already, there's got to be some other gem tucked away inside Miyamoto's head.

Smiley face, smiley face, smiley face.

I was just playing along with "the orange box cubed" being the only way to meet people's silly expectations. Valve develop or at least publish very different games almost annually.

          Smiley face.

Ah! My detector didn't trigger, and I put so many words into that reply!

Perhaps a more appropriate sarcastic response would have been: "Any new IP from Valve will just be something they've ripped off from another student game/mod they've absorbed because they don't know how to do anything original themselves".

In other news, John Lowrie won't be seen in public for a while, not at least until the bruises go away

When I read statements like this I imagine the guy is standing infront of a video camera, sweating and nervously reading front a script while some other valve thug stands over him with a red crowbar bar whispering to him about 'unforeseen consequences' if he doesn't do it right...
