That list is just a slap in the face.
Been periodically refreshing the linked page, hoping for good news… Nope! 🙂 At least they identified and fixed some things.
I wonder what that ‘unblocking this for everyone’ means… Maybe making it so that you could enter the world and dick about without being forced into a highly-unreliable pick-up group, first thing? Maybe letting you do it solo? Because that would’ve been a very smart design decision to make BEFORE launching and gating everyone and taxing the match-making servers and saving match-maker server stress only for those who wanted it.
Hindsight’s 20:20, but c’mon…
I haven’t had time to check it out yet. Does it have the ability to set up private sessions, or is it pug games all the way?
You can enter the game-world with a bunch of options. Free for all, invite-only, crew-only, friends-only, solo. Solo restricts the number of activities you can engage in.
Scattered through the world appears to be ‘jobs’ which if you’re in an unpopulated world of your own then queue you up to play with others.
The major failing of GTAO at the moment seems to be forcing everyone to go through one of those (in the form of the race) before they can get to any of the rest of the world, solo.
By about 95%.
the just about everything.
I am still stuck on the part of the GTAO tutorial where Simeon wants you to steal a ride. I stole a Maibatsu Sanchez, took it to the mod shop and bought a tracker & insurance for it, but whenever I choose the option to ‘respray’ it, my character just sits on the bike while the guy in the mod shop walks around the shop, leaving me in a crashed game. This happens no matter how many different game sessions I try to join.
They forgot to mention the full avatar wipe….got my guy to level 10, logged out, when I came back….. goneskis
I know I played all last night n I got to rank 16 had apartment n then this morning it was all gone wasted time could done sumthin else
How about being categorized as a bad sport for leaving missions due to connection drop outs?
Yep got that one. Cheers Rockstar.
Change freezing sometimes to freezing EVERY F***N TIME! and that would be more accurate.
Haha yeah I was going to say
Bug 1: First race doesn’t work
I tried about 4 times over 2 hours last night on XBL and no luck. I’m not angry though, I know they’ll fix it up and it’ll be sweet…. just a waiting game.
Yeah, I cannot get past that damn tutorial. I have tried at least 100 times now. EVERY time it freezes up on the “waiting for other players”. I give it at least 2 minutes each time to find players.
You know in GTA IV I was able to bring up the phone select Multiplayer > Deathmatch and join a lobby and be in a match in about a minute.
How have they managed to screw this up so badly!? I just want a PvP match FFS not to be forced thru MMO BS
Kind of like APB.. Sure it exists, sure you can play it, but it sucks. If thats all you want, then go play that then. Nobody cares.
It’s quite an acceptable amount of launch issues for such a major release (the most expensive game of all time), and they are already fixing them. Give them a few days jeez.
It’s quite an acceptable amount amount of launch issues for such a major release
I find that sentence kind of troubling
Lol only when you yourself have released an entire multiplayer game without any problems with hundreds of k people trying to log in at the same second no doubt..
I’ve played a number of prolific multiplayer games that worked fine on day one. In the case of GTA Online I am completely ok with it because they said openly they were expecting a rocky launch. They were honest so I will forgive them.
But I don’t think we as consumers should accommodate poor launches, otherwise companies will not strive to do better. Companies will only get away with what we allow them to. If we continually tell them it needs to be better they’ll invest more in beta programs and resources to make things smoother or at least gift out freebies to thank people for their patience. But if we let companies launch broken experiences without giving them feedback then nothing will change. It’s not at all in our best interest to make companies feel it’s ok to launch products that’s provide a poor experience and do not work properly.
I just think it’s worrisome when the consumer begins to expect faulty services and even deem them acceptable. It’s good to forgive a company if they take the effort make it up to you for a poor experience, but we should never tell them we are fine with it.
But its an unprecedented scale.. It’s like, yeah, the launch of MapleStory to at the time what was probably it’s 20 fans who probably knew the dev probably went fine..
a game that had made something like $700,000,000 before it was launched/the day it was launched.. yeah.. probably a different scale heh! Infact one which (they claim) has never occurred before in their media..
You can only do so much. I don’t expect faulty services, as a dev, I expect a prompt acknowledgement and resolution of such issues… Which is exactly what they are doing.
You can take their blood if it makes you happy.. Me, i’ll settle for a quick fix to what are fairly understandable glitches, exposed in record time by one of the largest initial userbases ever. Cheers!
I think you missed the part where I said
“In the case of GTA Online I am completely ok with it because they said openly they were expecting a rocky launch. They were honest so I will forgive them.”
Well yeah, but that statement kind of invalidated the whole thread, though I guess I get what you mean in a general sense.. as you even say, in this case, it’s pretty acceptable..
I was replying to your other comments 🙂
Edit: and now we are at max depth, so I win this conversation on the internet by default! Huzzah! ^_^
Yes, you win this round Mr Debyl. Either way, I’ll be at max depth tonight … WITH YOUR MUM!!!
Seriously though, I was indeed talking in a broad sense. I don’t condone bashing companies and threatening them, I hate it when people do that. I think as consumers our responsibility is to politely (and firmly if need be) articulate our issues and it’s a company’s responsibility to give, in your words, prompt acknowledgement and resolution of such issues. If we stop communicating our problems to a company and let them off the hook then things will never get better.
So, I think my gripe with your original comment, describing launch issues as “acceptable”, was purely semantic because I think we’re on the same page here.
I guess there’s two ends of the scale that are not helpful. One end is gamers becoming feral and swearing at the devs, being generally disrespectful, even resorting to sending death threats, which is clearly not helpful. And the other end is apologists defending the devs and giving them a free pass when things don’t work properly (which I thought you were doing) which is a negative thing.
I think the customer/retailer relationship needs respect from both parties and it’s a shame that both parties often don’t show that respect. That’s why I really appreciate Rockstar’s honest on the matter, I give them props.
I had heaps of problems at first but managed to get thru been having some mission related problems but now I have the most expensive house so far in the game with 10 car garage and just waiting for other mates to get online properly
‘Intermittent’? Har, har, har. It happened about 99% of the time. 😛
I got to play for a bit this morning
After three restarts I got through and finished the first mandatory race. Then during the next bit where you have to steal drugs I turned invisible. It was fun punching people as the invisible man but I eventually restarted again and played for a bit more…….then I got stuck in the sky, l think I may have had a heart attack and was in heaven or something. Luckily my phone still worked in the afterlife so I messaged a few of the other players so I did not feel so alone… I also rang a taxi but apparently they don’t service clouds cause it never came.
This could be really fun if it ever works……I guess I also need PSN friends??
Yep. This is the same GTA Online that ‘made a superb second impression’ according to Kotaku yesterday. Utter bs.
I’ve courteously provided them with a custom error message pic:

I tried to get on a few times and I got the cloud server error. Fair enough, just about every 360 and ps3 owner is trying to log on and pay right now. I’ll just give it a few days and play it when it’s runnig properly. I was kind of expecting it to happen.
What about things like:
-not being able to train Chop
– ifruit not syncing with GTA V
-Helicopters constantly rocking, inducing sea sickness (would love to fly one in a straight line!!)
-LCN not listing all the stocks it should, or listing them sporadically.
-Having to stand on one leg, on tin foil, facing north, between the hours of 3am & 7am, whilst humming Bonnie Tyler songs, just to get Bawsdaq working
…coz some movement on these issues would be pretty sweet, too!
Can the whole online experience be classed as a bug?
I wish there was a way to avoid the tutorial mission since that’s where the problems start.
After being unable to connect online, my single player is broken – I’m unable to switch characters or start missions. It is remedied by loading up an old save, but that’s about 20% of the game I’ll have to do-over. Granted not as some of the online problems people are having, but still really annoying.
You completed 20% of the game in a single sitting without saving?
Seems like a bad plan 😛
Was relying on autosave with the occasional manual save.
all u had to do was uninstall the update and reinstall the update
I have a question: What happens if you are one of the 6 people in the world that are the last to attempt the tutorial? You can’t fill the mission, so you can’t start the race. Even when the numbers of first time players start to dwindle the wait for players will get longer and longer.
… They’d patch it i’d imagine?
