Hey Squall, did you hear? Your game’s on Steam now.
It’s kind of a big deal, dude.
Because now tons of people can buy and play Final Fantasy VIII on their PCs? I mean, you must know what Steam is.
OK, sorry! I shouldn’t have assumed.
Steam is this big network that lets people buy computer games, earn achievements, share games with their friends. It’s run by Valve, the company started by Gabe Newell —
You really don’t know who Gabe Newell is?
I mean, I don’t really care, I’m just —
OK, OK. Let’s call timeout here. Can you take a step back and admit that you were being a bit of an arsehole just then?
What? Man, I’m just trying to let you know that your game is on Steam. What’s with you?
Well, I’m sorry to hear that. If it helps, Final Fantasy VIII is pretty good.
Critics! And fans! I mean, aren’t you excited about all the new people who will get to experience your game?
Why?
Very funny. I thought you might be psyched about your audience expanding, that’s all.
What, you mean Square Enix? I mean, I know they’ve got some awful business practices, but I don’t think they’re that bad…
🙁

Oh Squall, you’re such an emo :3
Did you know you can destroy the game within the first hour of the game? Buy 30 tents and turn them into 300 Curagas, junction them to your health and you’re pretty much at max health already.
If you really want the game to be easy, avoid every single encounter you can (turn on Encounter-none). Why? Because all enemies and bosses scale to your level. So it’s actually much easier to play the game at level 1 then it is to play the game at level 100.
Having that much health doesn’t make the game that easy. A lot of the bosses use demi or demi-equivalents, plus those attacks that leave you with 1 HP. The real game breakers are the limitbreaks: Squalls Lionheart, (which you can get on disc 1) and exploiting Zell’s limitbreak (dubbed Armageddon Fist). I love the shit out of that game, warts and all. I guess it’s because I grew up watching my brothers clock FF7, 8 & 9, but FF8 was the first one I beat by myself. Nostalgia!
Yeah, you increase your max health but your current health doesn’t change until you heal. Meaning, your Limitbreaks are constantly available. If you keep your level low, enemies won’t be doing enough damage to reduce your remaining health, and if they do a simple Potion can be used to increase but keep it at yellow.
Also, I’m surprised you didn’t use this one https://31.media.tumblr.com/6fc53d71086e7c0de6a3d63f96650715/tumblr_moaksuQYiQ1rollfco1_1280.jpg
Lol, I love that moody bastard. And he was ’emo’ before emo was really a term, so I like to think of him as more of a dark hipster
Edit: Dammit! Emo has origins in the 80s, so he’s less of a mainstream emo then
What’s the deal with having speech marks in the text boxes, by the way? As if it wasn’t obvious who was speaking 😛 Maybe it’s so you can differentiate it from a soliloquy. but that’s what the transparent boxes are for!
If you remember from the game, the characters have thoughts too that are made known to the player.
Wasnt PC version really crappy? .
I know that Final Fantasy VII was terrible on PC – the PC version is what convinced me to buy a PS1, both because the game was obviously good while the PC interface was obviously terrible. The recent HD rerelease fixed some problems of the original, but left the absolutely horrible control system in place.
I can’t speak for FF8. I skipped the PC release since by that point I had a PS1, and since the Steam release of FF7 has the same problems as the original PC version, I expect the Steam version of FF8 to share the same horrible controls.
>New Playstation console
>FFX HD re-release comes out on PS3/Vita
>FFVIII comes out on PC
Come on Sony, what the crap are you doing? You know that Final Fantasy is one of the pillars your consoles have been built on, right??
Final Fantasy 7 and 8 are both playable on PS2, PS3 and Vita via emulation. The PS4 doesn’t have that yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they added PS1 emulation later because the PS1 had relatively simple hardware.
All the background graphics and movies are in a fairly low resolution, so if you can play the PS1 emulated version you’re not missing out on very much. The HD graphics are nice but a bit jarring against the SD backgrounds.
