When you own both Pixar and Star Wars, the most logical move would be to let Pixar make a Star Wars movie, no? Well, that’s exactly what Disney is planning according to The Latino Review.
A Pixar film would be one of many tie-ins that would happen with Episode VII — for example, there are rumours of comics and TV shows. At the moment, there don’t seem to be any more specific details about a Pixar film — but should it happen, it’s not exactly the most surprising move for Disney to take. The Latino Review has also been right about the stuff its heard about before.
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.

I believe the idea proposal went, like this:
Hey Guys! Cars was pretty popular! Why don’t we make a movie where AT-AT’s, X-Wings, and Snowspeedrs can talk?
no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no nope
The unfortunate epilogue to that exchange was that nobody said: “hey, remember how pretty much no one liked Planes? Remind me again, why are we planning a ‘Planes Trilogy’?”
Planes is normal Disney. Pixar didn’t have a hand in it.
Well Pixar CEO John Lasseter co-wrote and executive produced Planes (and directed the two Cars movies so far), so it’s not like the two franchises are that far removed from each other.
True. It was originally goint to be direct-to-DVD but Disney though they could make more money by releasing it hte way they did.
“No one liked planes because they didn’t shoot lasers and explode”
Haha good point =)
This is either gonna be the worst cringefest, or the best movie evar! Hoping for the latter!
I have faith in Pixar.. Their work is usually pretty awesome
why can’t people just let things be and enjoy it for what it is. why dose every thing have to be made into an epic franchise?
That said though, I can’t wait for the Big W catalogue animated trilogy.
The worst Pixar films are better than most other films.
Come on Kotaku, you can’t just take a complete rumor and slap ‘report’ with absolutely nothing besides the same rumor everyone else is linking to.
Ah, from the esteemed trade journal The Latino Review, no less.
Please don’t
Would you prefer Dreamworks instead?
I can picture the movie poster now – complete with Gungan as the Dreamworks mandatory creature with attitude.
Seriously though, I think Pixar would be up to the job of making at least a fairly decent Star Wars animated film.
Perhaps Dreamworks will independently come up with the idea of making a Star Wars film and release it around the same date?
Why would a studio drop tens to hundreds of millions on a movie that will never be released?
“we’ll call it Stellar Battle!”
Anyone who seriously suggests pixar-ing up sith lords should be kicked in the nuts. It’s as bad an idea as ‘Heil Honey I’m Home’, the actually got a single episode made sitcom about Hitler and Eva Braun living in middle class 70s london and he’s always arguing with his neighbours.
Seriously. It got made.
That link is almost as amazing as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s commentary track on the Total Recall DVD…
Also I admit I haven’t watched much of it, but it seems to me like The Clone Wars animated series is already pretty much Star Wars Pixar-ised… Unless Pixar really try something different with their interpretation, it’s not going to end well.
I say if there absolutely has to be an animated Star Wars feature, pull an ‘Animatrix’ and get a whole bunch of different animators to do some vignettes about different characters throughout the EU (heck, even interpreting stories from the ‘Tales from’ series of EU books would work… a lot of those back stories and side-plots were ridiculous, but some of them were actually quite interesting).
Yeah, pretty much. I think I would prefer a ixar one though because the animated series is a generalised “this is war, execute strategy x, find this thing” etc.
There was actually the odd occasion on the clone wars that were very dark (for kids stuff) with no attempt to soften it, and that’s never happened in any pixar movie I have seen. But I will admit I have not seen all of them.
Have you seen Up or Brave? Honorable mention to Toy Story 3, the baby in that is terrifying.
In the first 15 minutes of ‘Up’, a boy falls in love, grows up, marries his lifelong love, they try for a baby but find out that she cannot fall pregnant, she gets depression after this, they grow old together always dreaming and saving for their dream holiday, she ends up passing away to leave the old man alone and without his life long love, never having made it to their dream holiday they always dreamed of, then big business development tries to take away his home and send him to a retirement home, he decides to make a change.
Not heavy at all………
Star Wars has been whore’d dry for decades, from comics to cartoons, shampoo to toothbrushes, the idea that there’s some purity to maintain is kinda silly.
To be honest, I just want a good Star Wars: The Christmas Special.
Complete with a coked up to the eyeballs Carrie Fisher?
I’ve gotta see this thing…
Even better:
I’ve got the force in me (parody of You’ve got a friend in me)
Then we see Darth Zurg take on Buzz Lightyear and a cowboy Jedi voiced by Tom Hanks.
Then Bonnie walks in.
Perhaps some tie in stuff, and not a feature film? Perhaps they are doing the CGI? Or perhaps they are doing one of those “side-stories”?
Probably a side-story.
I’d probably see a Pixar one about Yoda.
Who am I kidding, I’ll see it anyway.
a fool and his money are soon parted.
or, a creative and his IP are soon parted, for much $$$ to part lesser fools and their measley $$$.
Make it a sequel to Caravan Of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and I will be all over it.
You win the best idea of the day. I swear that movie is the cause of my arachnophobia.
You got it from a kids movie? I got bitten hundreds of times by spiders to get Arachnophobia.
Seems like your method is less terrifying.
You got bitten hundreds of times by spider’s growing up? I’m not sure what you were doing when you were growing up but whatever it was, you weren’t doing it right.
Short answer: Bullies.
Well that sounds … traumatic
I really love how the title of this article makes it sound as if Pixar making a Star Wars movie is fact when it is purely conjecture, not even the Latino Review article points to any evidence that the rumor may be true or even that the rumor was started by someone who might be in the know.
my first thought was maybe a feature length episode of the star wars clone wars tv episode but made into a movie. As the cartoon style of the tv show would fit pixar quite well.
I’m not a rabid fan of Star Wars, but I think Pixar’s work is simply magical. I’d watch anything they create, so count me in.
Without a doubt they’ve made some of the best films I’ve ever seen. They’d easily be among the greatest film makers currently in business. Few studios can tell a story like Pixar can.
As long as Disney never gets sentimental and lets Lucas helm it again I don’t really care who makes a Star Wars film, they can’t be any worse. With the exception of Uwe Boll perhaps.
Does anyone remember Star Wars Clone Wars, the one made by the guy who did Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Lab, that stuff was amazing.
