In addition to its massive graphical upgrade, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is filled with bosses, dungeons, and side quests never before seen outside of Japan. But there is one thing included that is completely new: a 30-minute audio drama that has me hoping for Final Fantasy X-3.
Taking place a year after the end of Final Fantasy X-2, this audio drama, called Final Fantasy X — Will — , follows two new characters: Chuami and Kurgum. Both are members of the new Spiran Council that have been tasked with persuading Yuna to help with a problem involving the Farplane.
Along the way, they encounter about half of Final Fantasy X‘s main cast and we learn a lot about the state of the world after Final Fantasy X-2 — especially how those only now coming of age feel about the old religion and living in a world without Sin. But more than that, we get to see the start of a new calamity that threatens to destroy the hard-won Eternal Calm. However, what I enjoyed most about the audio drama was the character of Chuami.
She serves as the viewpoint character for the vast majority of the audio drama — and is a thoroughly unlikable character. She is arrogant, brash, and incredibly judgmental — especially of the characters we know and love. Yet, what makes her so entertaining is her potential as a character. All her vices are ones that can be utilised for great character development as they are overcome one by one over the course of a long journey — like say, a journey found in a JRPG. And to top it off, she comes with a backstory that is almost too awesome to be believed.
If — Will — has one downside, it’s that almost too much happens in its mere 30-minute runtime. The characters transverse the world twice, dump a lot of exposition, deal with love and heartbreak, and even split the party into separate factions. So it feels a bit rushed to say the least.
In the end, the audio drama provides an interesting setup should Square Enix decide to continue the Final Fantasy X series. And should “Final Fantasy X-3” come in game form or in another medium entirely, my interest has definitely been piqued. I’m definitely excited to see where it all goes from here.
Final Fantasy X — Will — was released in Japan for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on December 26, 2013, as part of the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. The remaster collection will be released in Australia on March 20, 2014.

From a translation I read a week or two ago it sounds like a terrible fan-fiction.
Chuami and Kurgum are being sent to Besaid by Baralai to search for Yuna. Yuna tells Chuami that Tidus is her boyfriend, but later when Chuami and Kurgum spy on a conversation between the two, it seems they are breaking up. Yuna is jealous of Tidus’s friend, Marufi, but soon she tells him she doesn’t care anymore, and has already got another person she likes. Tidus asks who it is but Yuna tells him it’s someone he doesn’t know. When Tidus asks Lulu about Yuna’s new love interest, Lulu says she thought Tidus would know Yuna better and tells him to figure it out himself.Tidus is a blitzball star throughout Spira, but Chuami notices he’s injured and has little energy, although he is trying to hide it. When Chuami meets him again in Bevelle, he is injured and apparently hiding from someone. Yuna has returned to the mannerisms and dress style of her summoner days, referring to her sphere hunter days as a “bad dream”.
Chuami claims to be Auron’s daughter, but is confronted by Lulu when she mentions it, saying she doesn’t look like him and that many people claim to be children of Auron, Jecht, and Braska. Chuami says her mother wouldn’t lie to her but Lulu says that Auron would have said if he had any children since he wasn’t the type of person to hide such a thing.
Sin has somehow been re-activated, and Yuna delivers a speech to a crowd proclaiming she will defeat it once more. Tidus trying to follow Yuna on her new journey, since he promised to be with her forever.
Director said he’d love to do more in Spira but had no plans.
Can’t search Siloconera on my phone, but that’s where it was.
I wonder if FFX was orginally set to be like FFXIII?
(I mean with the 2 extra games, FFXIII-2 and Lightning returns, but they worked out it just didnt fit “FFX-2 and Yuna Returns” lol)
I’m fairly certain that there was talk of FFX-3 back in the day so I wouldn’t be surprised. I think they diverted the resources to FFXII though, since it was in development hell.
If Pat from The Two Best Friends Podcast was correct, it’s terrible fan fiction that double kills the theme of FFX, which was already killed in FFX-2!
The novel X2.5 certainly is. The audio drama on the other hand shows some semblance of good writing. Personally I really liked Chuami, she’s easily the best thing to come out of this mess.
i actually think he was talking about a light novel that was released, the radio drama is set before the (apparent) explodey ball thing.
I thought they were the same thing.
nah pretty sure they were different
Jehts story? Yes please
Definitely. If there’s one thing Final Fantasy needs right now, it’s more sequels and retreads of the past.
No. Just no
Yes. Just yes.
