While You Were Sleeping

Steam needs a redesign, Razer has a new product that doesn’t play games, and China is being all vague about allowing consoles. Here’s what happened while you were (supposed to be) sleeping.

Steam’s desktop client is getting a visual overhaul. I guess what constitutes good interface design is a subjective thing, since I’ve seen a lot worse. The most logical solution to me is for Valve to take its Big Picture interface and apply it to the desktop client.

Razer is stepping out of the gaming, uh, game and trying to tell us how to live. Its new Nabu smartband tracks phone calls, emails, app notifications and sleep patterns… not unlike your Fitbit Flex, Jawbone UP, Nike Fuelband or Basis B1. It doesn’t even play games!

You know how China released a document this week about ending its 13-year ban on video game consoles? Well, it actually ended four months ago. And there’s no explanation of how China will allow consoles into the country. Or when it will happen. The document explains nothing.
