Do you think they’ll do the Antonio Banderas move?
The official release date of the PS4 in Japan is 22 February 2014. However, at the Sony building in Ginza, Tokyo, Sony is offering to sell 100 PS4s a day early. Of the 100, 30 will get to participate in the special PlayStation 4 COUNTDOWN event that night and of those 30, one will be chosen at random to be the first official Japanese buyer of the PlayStation 4.
The announcement of the event went up on the evening of 17 February, and by 11pm on 19 February, eight people were already camped out in front of the Sony building, eagerly waiting.
Japanese gaming site inside games managed to talk with the first man in line. He and 3 of his friends — the first four in line — have brought chairs, blankets, sleeping bags and disposable warmers to weather the cold. The four take breaks in shifts and are holding fort until the sale begins.
The PS4 is currently still available for preorder in Japan on Amazon, so it’s not necessary to go to such lengths to get one. Still, for a chance to do The Banderas? I might consider it.

I still can’t believe I have a PS4 already and folks in Japan are just getting theirs now (soon). I would never have guessed that as an Australian I would get any Playstation product before it was released in Japan.
That was going to be my comment too… And we think we have it bad..
Not only that – but it also is surely a big factor in nintendo’s continued success over there
wait, it seems unclear to me..
so there will be 100 ps4s for sale one day early (so feb 21), and those 100 people will get the chance to be one in 30 to participate in an event for them to be the first to officially buy the ps4?
eh? i thought there would already be 100 people who bought them
I think it’s that this is the first official sale of the PS4. There’s no “midnight launch” or anything at regular stores, I’ll be going in at 7am opening time to pick up my preorder.
Me too! 😛
