Play Frozen Synapse For Free This Weekend

What’s so good about Good Friday? Here’s what. Turn-based tacticians can grab one of the best indie titles in the last few years for 80% off on Steam this weekend, as Frozen Synapse goes on sale — and for the duration of the weekend, you can play it for free.

If you’re unfamiliar with Frozen Synapse, it’s a simultaneous turn-based game in which you enter commands for your urban SWAT-like robot soldiers, while your opponent does the same. When both players are ready, rounds are played out five seconds at a time.

For fans of the genre, this is easily one of the best value for money propositions out there. I haven’t played in a while, so I’m unsure how populated the game is right now – especially now that the Frozen Endzone early access period has started – but the free weekend and sale should bring in some fresh blood for you to test your mettle against, and the game has a full single-player campaign as well.

Luckily, the asynchronous nature of its multiplayer has allowed it to avoid the curse of the multiplayer indie game, in which player populations become too small for the game to be playable. And the game continues to enjoy success on other platforms.
