Earlier today, Japanese site Sanspo announced that actor/singer Haruma Miura will be starring in the live-action version of popular anime Attack on Titan. It also revealed where the movie will be shot: Battleship Island.
The island, located off the coast of Nagasaki, is officially called Hashima (端島), but nicknamed Gunkanjima (軍艦島), or “Battleship Island”, because it resembles a warship in the water.

As the island’s website points out, from the late 19th century to 1974, Gunkanjima was inhabited by coal miners and their families. Apartments, among other structures on the island like schools, shops, and even hair salons, are now abandoned. Today, the island is a tourist destination.
Sanspo reports that the filmmakers will add “original elements” to the movie’s plot. Details are scant, however, to depict a world destroyed by the Titans, the movie will be shot at Gunkanjima. Online, fans like Twitter user @NaoNino have taken note (top image). It’s not yet known how much of the movie will be filmed on the island.

It won’t be the first movie to use the island. Kyodo reported that Gunkanjima was the inspiration for the villain’s lair in Skyfall — however, the movie wasn’t actually shot on the island, because it was too dangerous. Instead, the island was created in CGI and on a Pinewood Studios soundstage.

Japan always throws its cliché idols into movies. Most can barely sing IRL, let alone act.
Live-Action Attack on Titan adaptation? Sounds bad.
Like the Anime.
Shots fired
Is that the same place as the bad guy’s hang out in Skyfall? Or was that another abandoned industrial island? Either way, cool.
Someone didnt read all the article :3
