Microsoft is in the process of rolling out a new Xbox One update that, among some other minor fixes, addresses one glaring oversight.
That’s a notification when friends logged on or off Xbox Live. I get why heavy users wouldn’t care for this, since they would usually have it turned off to stop them going insane, but those with fewer friends — or those who like to keep on top of who’s on and offline — will be cheering the feature’s return.
- Game and app saves and updates. A game save progress bar will show you the status of your game saves. You will also be able to easily tell what games and apps are being updated or have been updated recently.
- Friends improvements. Notifications will be added to see when favorites and friends sign in to Xbox Live. This was one of the most frequently requested features, so we made it a priority to include it in this update. Also, friends who are in multiplayer will be identified in the friends list.
- Kinect voice and motion improvements will continue to be fine-tuned for quality and reliability of Xbox One commands. For example, we’ve updated some of the gesture functionality to reduce false positives on non-hand objects triggering gesture commands.
- Improved GameDVR video quality through compression algorithm improvements.
- Blu-ray player supports 50 Hz video output for content recorded at 50 Hz. We’ll also be updating the Blu-ray Player app in the coming days to round out these improvements.
- Controller and headset adaptor firmware updates will reduce audio static and improve wireless connectivity.
- Silent reboot after system updates and system update on demand now available. If your console is in Instant On mode, the update will happen automatically and return to standby upon completion. This means you won’t need to power on your console after an update moving forward. If you want to take future updates when available without waiting for your console to do it on its own, we’ve added this option under system settings and you’ll be able to use it next update. It will only show as available when there is an update to take.

I like that they added the option to have Favourites only in the notifications.
Can listen to a custom soundtrack yet?
Like I could when it was feature of the original Xbox?
Fucking hell MS is useless.
That was the best feature and made some games (especially Tony Hawks 3, Deathrow & most racing games) so much better by cranking your own soundtrack I still sometimes go back to the original xbox just for that feature.. Bring it back MS
I can’t believe I got downvoted three times for writing that!
Oh well, it was a touch abrasive.
Seriously though, I’ve played so much less Forza 5 than I would have if it had custom soundtrack support.
If I’m going to paint a car or something for hours then I want to be able to listen to my own music while I do it.
It’s bullshit that they’ve ignored the feature.
Its hilarious you keep getting down voted for these. Gotta defend ma console!
I gave you an up vote because I really loved custom soundtracks.
Not defending them for not implementing the feature. But, you’ve played less of a game because you can’t play your own music? Don’t have a smart phone/computer/tablet that you can play music from?
Yeah I could do that, but it’s not really the same.
I want it all coming out of the same system, I want it balanced properly and I want it out of my headphones.
Forza is generally my go-to game when I just want to chill and listen to music, so yeah it’s a really big thing for me.
If I get a new CD or theres something that I really feel like listening to I throw Forza on because I know I can paint a car or do a race and it’s not going to detract from the atmosphere of the game.
Just you wait, Trials is out today…. Do you remember how fucking awful the music is in Trials? SUPER FUCKING AWFUL!!!
I now have to choose between a better looking, smoother running version of the game and the 360 version which doesn’t have ear bleedingly bad music.
Don’t forget it wasn’t just a day 1 feature of the original Xbox, MS made it out to be a big selling point for the system.
The fact that you can listen to a custom soundtrack as long as you have the music bar ‘snapped’ over ¼ of the screen shows that it almost works.
The system has been out 5 months next week, it’s pretty pathetic that they haven’t fixed up yet.
Finally, it’s improved my friends! They were so uncool before this, but after the update they’re class A hipsters.
they need to capitalise on the usb functions”system video player/system music player app” i loved that the 360 had that feature where i could put any type movie, tv show, music on a usb and watch it straight on the console.
