Usually, games that happen beyond Earth’s atmosphere take you to planets teeming with life. Meeting creatures with tentacles where hair or hands should be or with strangely angled mandibles isn’t uncommon in sci-fi games. But, none of that happens in Elegy for Dead World, which we got a chance to see at PAX East this year. Everything that ever lived on these planets is long-deceased and you have to tell the cosmos what you think happened to them. And you have to use poetry to do it.
In the video above, Elegy designer Ziba Scott gives us a look at a game where you land on lifeless orbs in far-flung galaxies. Clues remain as to the civilizations that once thrived in these places but you, the player taking on the role of a surviving explorer, will be the one who pieces together a story to try and make sense of what came before. It’s a beautiful game with a unique hook that lets the player turn it into a sad, funny or angry experience. Look for it later this year on Steam.

According to Google an elegy is a mournful poem, or song for the dead. And knowing is half the battle!
