Make-up artist Tanea Brooks has released a set of pictures that show actors and actresses dressed up as Mortal Kombat characters, doing motion capture for the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection.
With the collection, Midway’s initial plan was to release HD remakes of the original games with new actors, and even though that’s not what happened in the end, these images with Liu Kang, Sonya, Shao Kahn and the others show that the remakes would have been quite faithful to the original:

Awww man…why didn’t this happen? Would have been awesome! HD remake of MKII? Oh hell yes…
I’m thinking the exact same thing, this could have been so epic!
I’ll always remember Stryker’s terrible roundhouse kick in MK3 where he couldn’t lift his leg very high. I don’t want that replacement with someone who can potentially do a proper roundhouse kick!
So cool to see Kerri ( Sonya’s actor from MK3 ) reprising her role, It’s a damn shame this never happened as the idea is money. I loved the 2.5D aspect of MK9 but what made Mortal Kombat stand out back in the day was the digitised actors. Although, this would have put some serious constraints on any type of budget meant for a re-release, as they were doing MK1-UMK3, one game would have been enough ( preferably MK2, the best Klassic MK imo ).
If anyone’s interested, there’s a thread on TRMK ( There’s alot of pages to skim through ) where users a re-creating the original Mortal Kombat using MUGEN ( Some of you may cringe at that ) with rendered characters… It looks amazing so far.

Yeah, good fringe!
