Shadowgate started life in 1987 as a point-and-click adventure game for the Apple Macintosh. We’re now just weeks away from Shadowgate being reborn for the PC, Mac, iOS and Android, and it looks so lovely.
From a simple, black-and-white, largely text-based adventures to wondrous hand-painted beast designed to look amazing at even 4K resolutions, this new version of Shadowgate is a labour of love from the game’s original creators, Karl Roelofs and Dave Marsh. As the development team Zojoi, the pair successfully Kickstarted the update back in 2012.
“Dave and I are incredibly thrilled to be returning to Castle Shadowgate after all these years,” said Karl Roelofs, design director at Zojoi via press release this morning. “When we created the MacVenture series, we knew we had something special on our hands – the initial response from gamers around the world was overwhelming! Shadowgate has remained near and dear to not only our hearts but to those who remember the haunting original, greatly evidenced by the support our Kickstarter campaign generated. The past few years we have been hard at work re-building and updating the Shadowgate experience and cannot wait to inspire, challenge, and terrify an entire new generation of players.”
This is not the first time Shadowgate has been remade or ported. Since its original release on the Mac, the game has shown up on Dos-based systems, Amiga, the Nintendo Entertainment system and the Game Boy Colour. Nintendo 64 fans will also recognise the game as the precursor to Shadowgate 64: Trials of the Four Towers.
The new Shadowgate is now available for preorder at the game’s official website.

Please tell me that’s not the new shadowgate soundtrack in the trailer. bcos the music was the best part of classic shadowgate.
