The tragic events in Waukesha, in which two young girls are accused of stabbing a friend, have brought internet myth Slender Man into the mainstream spotlight. So much so that the Creepypasta wiki, unofficial home to stories involving the character (and others like him), has had to issue a statement confirming that he is not real.
It’s in response to the media attention focused on the tale, a tale that two young girls say they believe is real, and which inspired them to allegedly lure a friend to a sleepover so they could stab her 19 times.
The most important part of the statement, highlighted on the wiki’s main page, reads:
ALL WORKS PRESENTED ON THIS WIKI AND OTHER SITES (INCLUDING SLENDERMAN, JEFF THE KILLER, BEN, SONIC.EXE, ETC) ARE FICTIONAL STORIES AND CHARACTERS
Of course, only a small minority of people (mostly newcomers) on the wiki (and the Internet) truly believe what they read here. And for most people, they will not attempt replicate atrocities presented in some of the literature on the wiki. Something like this was bound to happen, considering the size of the Creepypasta community. All it takes is one person to do something insane and radical in the name of someone or something.
This is an isolated incident, and does not represent or attribute the Creepypasta community as a whole. This wiki does not endorse or advocate for the killing, worship, and otherwise replication of rituals of fictional works. There is a line of between fiction and reality, and it is up to you to realise where the line is. We are a literature site, not a crazy satanic cult.
To help out, the Creepypasta wiki is also running a fundraiser for the victim, which you can find here.

For a literature site, this release certainly isn’t very eloquent.
Creepypasta I refer to.
Reminds me of the Supernatural episode.
How horrifying. This is going to be a terrible soapbox for politicians and the uninformed to stand on yet again. I hope the victim can recover from this.
Indeed – of course they will no doubt “forget” about the famous horror writers… Herbert, King etc…
Hello andrew bolt, alan jones, steve price & other contraversial conservatives trying to have a go at the internet for trying to link it to all evil
For those that are wondering what the story’s link to Slenderman is, seeing as the article avoids all explanation of it, the two girls lured their friend into the woods to stab her as a sacrifice to Slenderman, believing they were his “Proxies”. They were attempting to prove their loyalty to him to be able to enter his realm and had already considered several other alternative methods. Attempts are currently being made to try them as adults since juvenile convictions must release criminals at the age of 25.

Because keeping a 12 year old in jail for 13 years just doesn’t cut it apparently. Yeah what they did was disgusting and horrifying. Thankfully the girl lived.
But what do they hope to achieve by placing them in jail for 13 years let alone longer? They clearly don’t have the mental capacity of adults so why try them as adults? If it’s anyone’s fault it’s the adults who had no idea what their kids were looking at online.
i find the funniest thing about this whole knee jerk reaction is that all a creepypasta is is a modern day ghost story and all those people who are now calling for it to be banned are kidding themselves if they think they are going to succeed in destroying ghost stories , they’ve been around for hundreds of years.
I’m sure their lawyer asked them what they liked to do when on the Internet, and found something to ‘blame’ it on. They probably looked at Slenderman related stuff once or twice. At least they didn’t’ blame it on GTA5.
Slenderman is the excuse. Had these psychopathic girls been born 20 or 30 or 40 years ago, it would have been to sacrifice the victim to “satan” or some other nonsense. Slenderman might have been the monster of choice, but these young monsters would have picked something else if Slenderman hadn’t been around. No well adjusted child would ever stab another on the basis of an urban legend, as evidenced by the thousands of kids who probably talk about slenderman yet fail to go on homicidal sprees.
Slenderman isn’t to blame. Although I kind of wish he was, since the slenderman monster is one of the least scary and silliest monsters I’ve ever heard of. He wears a business suit for crying out loud. Wooo, scary, he’s come to…. audit my taxes!!!
It is creepy and i would not want my kids looking at this slenderman no its not all to blame but it is a bad site
People need to understand that there is two versions of slenderman the fictonal urban myth slenderman (who used to be respected) that some people like to compare him to scp-582 and then there’s the innocent and seemingly funny slenderman meme
