Aww! What’s with the Takes of Xillia hate?
It’s not really a good game when compared to the other Tales of games… though my main peeve with it is the bland and boring “overworld” (I’m going to compare it to FFXIV 1.0’s Black Shroud. It’s copy-paste scenery that kills any motivation to explore) and reskinned monsters from Tales of the Abyss.
OTOH, I really enjoyed the tweaks made to the battle system in Xillia. Since that is where most of the actual gameplay lives, I can live with a bit of blandness in the environments.
I do get the point the strip makes about Milia being the more interesting character but given the less interesting storyline however. Most of the time Jude has the charisma of a turnip, and his “trainee doctor” backstory is largely ignored in how his character actually plays.
I will give the battle system praise, but it’s not enough to make me enjoy the game (especially when the monsters themselves are reused from previous Tales of games). If they did something similar to Ni no Kuni (overworld), or even Xenoblade Chronicles (Gaur Plains), then I probably would have liked the game more.
After the whole Dickwolves debacle, that Actiontrip comic is kinda playing with fire. That alchemist fire they use in Game of Thrones to destroy entire armadas of ships.
Maybe not they are nowhere near as high profile as Penny Arcade so they and many other comics can make Rape jokes that fly under the radar.
