Briefly: Um, I don’t think anybody is saying that. In case you haven’t got there already, three of those games (Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and Evolve) aren’t just going to be released on PS4, but PC as well.

Social proof fail.
All this exclusive stuff is starting to give me the shits, especially the extra content only on a specific console for the multi-plat’s
While I get your point, it’s pretty funny when you look back on how few games were multiplatform back in the pre-internet days.
Sega and Nintendo had system exclusives far more regularly back in the days when the mega-publishers were just regular big-publishers.
Hell, cross platform PS1/N64/PC was unheard of in the late 90’s!
Nowadays everyone gets the shits when another system gets as much as an exclusive bonus mission, so in that sense it’s kinda funny.
In another more real sense, it’s more “kinda” f*cking infuriating and annoys the sh*t out of me too.
It’s not really the exclusive games that annoy me, as you said they’ve been around forever. It’s more the exclusive extra stuff for different platforms.
Take the upcoming Destiny as an example, if a person has played the Beta and fallen in love with it, but only has an Xbone (or it’s their preferred platform), they now have to go out and by a PS3/PS4 because of the extra content that’s “only on Playstation” or they miss out. I wouldn’t really mind so much if they made it available to everybody for example free on Playstation, but paid on XBox.
Or even Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, I’m pretty sure it had extra content on Playstation. I’ve got a 360 and a Playstation 3, and I’ve played every game in the series (except III and Revelations) on 360, but to get the extra content I would’ve had to buy it on PS3/PS4. It’s so annoying.
If you’re going to have extra content for your game, make it available to all platforms, some people don’t want to or can’t afford to buy extra consoles that they wouldn’t have normally bought.
Just like to throw this out there the Exclusive Content for PS3/4 version of Destiny is a timed Exclusive. It becomes available to XBox users Spring 2015 which is somewhat vague.
Which is at least 3 months after launch…
Surely a delay of that long is damaging to their sales?
How long do they expect people will be playing their game?
Good question, how often will they add new stuff. What will the PvP be like? If you buy the limited Edition (which doesn’t seem that limited) you get the first 2 expansions already. Maybe every year they will do a new add on planet pack.
Destiny is meant to be a 10 year game here. They want World of Warcraft here.
Exactly. it is just for a short time. This is what PlayStation owners dealt with last gen. Although I don’t agree with it, I’m glad it doesn’t affect me negatively with this game. 😉
I didn’t know that, I was just using it as an example. It doesn’t bother me too much if content for a game will come out on other platforms a short time after, it’s when it’s exclusive to a console full stop and will never see the light of day on other consoles that I take issue with it.
Oh I take issue with it too, if your exclusive that’s fine, if your multi-platform be multi-platform.
Don’t feel too bad very few people seem to know the Destiny Exclusiveness is timed. I’m literally going by the EB ads for the game. https://content.ebgames.com.au/website/images/detail/Playstation_destiny_banner.jpg
Let’s say I make a game about driving trucks, The Brand exclusive content is simply Brand skins for the Truck, nobody would care. But if somebody got an extra city or even just a few extra trucks it’s going to annoy people.
“If you’re going to have extra content for your game, make it available to all platforms, some people don’t want to or can’t afford to buy extra consoles that they wouldn’t have normally bought.”
Why should the world be fair and just , if you cant afford it , miss out and deal with it. Its this type of fairness for all attitude that has kids playing football and no scores are kept.
Sony does the same thing, neglecting to mention multiplat releases.
Nintendo is pretty much the only one you can trust for exclusives to stay that way. Bayonetta 2,aww yeah .
And Rayman Legends! Yeah!
Oh… wait…
Legends was great ,but ubisoft made an absolute mess of things.
Oops yeah I meant Legends, not Origins. Always get those two mixed up… edited.
But seriously, the exclusive situation is pretty much the same for all 3 platform holders. The first party developed and/or published stuff tends to stay exclusive (except rare cases like Mass Effect where EA bought the developer and was then able to release it on other platforms after it was originally published by Microsoft).
As far as 3rd party goes, it’s generally a free for all… most of the time they’re just timed, although there are some situations where they stay exclusive, either for technical reasons (e.g. Metal Gear Solid 4 needing the storage space of BluRay), cultural (e.g. the Yakuza series being so Japanese-centric that it didn’t really make sense to put it on XBox where there wasn’t a market in Japan) or money hat reasons (e.g. Titanfall).
I don’t think Sony has ever outright called these sorts of games ‘exclusives.’ They don’t mention multiplatform games for obvious reasons. It’s not expedient for them to promote a competitor’s product, even in passing… even in regards to a game they share.
Well, they’re exclusive in the sense that the Xbox One version/disc of say, AssCreedUnit, will work exclusively on the Xbox One…
Maybe they’re talking about exclusive content like weapon skins that nobody will be able to notice?
I’m sure that’s what they intended, only they didn’t add some disclaimer or fine print in the image so it just appears that CoD is ‘exclusive’ to Xbox.
The three multiplats in question all have content that is ‘timed exclusive’ for xbone so there’s that.
They’re not saying those are all exclusive. They’re saying ‘the XBOX One has the best exclusives’ and then showing a picture of six XBOX One games they’re apparently excited about.
That said it’s a really dumb way to lay it out and it’s just a dumb tweet in general.
I guess I will just stick to PC and the ethics that come with it.
MS can get stuffed for all I care.
Well, i guess they are right about the people who say it has the best exclusives, as the majority of Xbox users are immature jackasses who believe these games only exist on there precious potato box, and are probs the only people Microsoft listen to, also everyone agrees? there are over 100,000 people on /r/PCMASTERRACE who would disagree with that
Even if all the games showed were exclusive, it would still be a dumb tweet.
I don’t understand any of the appeal or hype of Sunset Overdrive. I wouldn’t bother with that game on PC at all, even if it was in the bargain bin for $10.
It’s not Fuse.
It looks like fun, not everyone wants a serious shooter.
It looks like Tony Hawk vs Mutants.
It’s not on my must have list, but I’d like to try it.
The funny thing is… PC actually has the best exclusives.
Still more exclusives this year than PS4.
