Seeing how the movie came out 22 years ago, Aladdin isn’t exactly “a whole new world” at this point. Disney Infinitycertainly took its sweet time bringing the nineties-era classic back in video game form, though. Today, Disney finally revealed its plans to bring Aladdin and Princess Jasmine to the Disney Infinity Toybox 2.0.
Don’t get too excited, though. Because while having a magic carpet in your virtual toy box sounds unimpeachably awesome, the Aladdin-themed content doesn’t sound like the most… robust addition to Disney Infinity.
The press release said nothing about a full Aladdin playset with unique levels in the vein of, say, the Pirates of the Caribbean or Monsters University ones. Instead, Disney left it at saying that “fans will be able to use these magical characters along with a variety of Disney fan favourites, including the popular Marvel Super Heroes, and hundreds of themed items, locations, props, vehicles and more to create all-new adventures and ‘whole new worlds’ born from the imagination of players.”
Plus, the two characters aren’t even coming out at the same time. Disney said that the Aladdin figure will launch in North America later this year, but we’ll have to wait until 2015 to get Princess Jasmine.
Sigh. Whatever happened to showing me the world, Disney? There have already been plenty of popular Aladdin games. And if you ask me, it’s high time we brought back the Prince Ali we knew from his glory days on the SNES and Sega Genesis.
Well, I guess Aladdin and Jasmine didn’t get together until the end of the movie anyways… and you can’t really deny that the new toys look pretty darn cool:
Princess Jasmine is looking particularly badass, in my opinion:
I mean, she even makes wielding a fish as if it’s a sword seem like a thing you can do:
And if stupid legal restrictions mean we’ll never get a magic carpet in Mario Kart, I guess this will have to do:
…a car is basically the next-gen version of a magic carpet, right?
STOP THIEF!
Disney didn’t provide an exact release date for either of the new toys. Fingers crossed that they will make a full playset for Prince Ali at some point though.

…It’s really been that long?
I’d rather have Genie and Abu, but then again, I’ll pretty much buy the hell out of any figures they release.
You’ll likely get Abu as a powerdisc, but it’ll be a crime not to get Genie!
Yes! More classic characters pls!
Indeed, really feels like they’re going all out for season 2!
Simba and Scar now…?
Aladdin and Jasmine in Disney Infinity?
What can I say? It’s a whole new world.
😀
Pixar and Marvel are cool (and we all KNOW that 3.0 has got to be Star Wars) but Disney Infinity really needs more classic characters like this. They need a dedicated Play Set “game” though! I can’t believe that with the huge success of Frozen, the Anna & Zelda figurines can only be used in the Toy Box!
I think you mean Anna & Elsa. Totally get what you mean though, pretty much all the playsets are from IP’s that are no more than 10-15 years old (except The Lone Ranger playset, but that’s based on the reboot anyway).
Give us some classic playsets please Disney.
I doubt there will be a playset it seems from what the trailer says they will exclusively for the toy box mode.
Finally! Very exciting. Wishing for playset but not getting my hopes up.
