Daniel “Abysswolf” Oliver’s pixel art reminds me of the Metal Slug games, especially Barret’s look in the Final Fantasy VII piece above. But he’s mostly into JRPGs and recently, he remade the cast of a couple of classic games as detailed, colourful 2D sprites.
Here’s Breath of Fire II:
Final Fantasy VII, with Cait Sith, Cid and Vincent added:
Final Fantasy IX:
The characters from Chrono Trigger:
And some awesome Monster Hunter armour sets:
There’s much more on his Tumblr and DeviantART pages. I’d love to see the cast of Final Fantasy VI remade similarly. They always looked so pixelated.

stunning absolutely stunning
I was going to make a cynical comment about how my problem with most sprite art is that they usually just take the default Megaman 7 sprites and alter them but then I saw Breath of Fire 2 and now I’m really happy.
Ugh, this makes my heart weep! Pixel art is probably one of my favourite art styles and these are insanely stunning! ~long swooning sigh~
Would love to see them animated.
Maybe instead of 3D remakes we should be asking for 2D remakes.
Is it just me or is 9/10 of this site now being the “if A was X/Y/Z/Lego/Minecraft/pixel” these days?
Imagine if bananas were like oranges! Here’s and orange made of bananas.
Wank… with a bit more wankery.
