Portal Built In Vanilla Minecraft

Portal Built In Vanilla Minecraft

Someone’s built a working version of Portal from basic Minecraft. No mods, just science and a lot of people trying to work out how it was done.

It’s the work of LagMaster163 (via VG247) and seems to have a few people trying to pick apart how it works. The pushable cube has a few people thinking:

“Just a guess- Is the Weighted Storage Cube a Falling Sand entity riding (or repeatedly summoned by) a sitting wolf?”

“My guess is a mob with no AI and then teleporting a falling sand entity to it.”

The portals are also getting a bit of discussion:

“It seems you are using falling sand for the portals. Invisible armour stands wearing the block as a helmet with the floating data tag might look nicer.”

And my favourite:

“Just a tip, right now it seems like you are using a tp command to make the portal entities float. Instead you can use /entitydata @e[] {Motion:[0.0,0.0,0.0]} on a fast clock. Then you won’t have the flickering which I can see right now.”

As someone who just builds houses and hordes chickens I have no idea what that last one means but I salute the work that’s gone into this:
