I Can’t Get Enough Video Game Banjo Music

Banjo Guy Ollie’s quest to cover video game’s greatest music has only just now reached the “Still Alive” stage, but then his choice of instrument isn’t exactly cutting-edge. Don’t worry, he’s got a whole bunch of video game music under his banjo strap.

I’m a huge fan of banjo music that goes beyond the “dueling” stage. It’s a wonderfully versatile instrument in the right hands, and Irish musician Ollie seems to possess those hands. I’ve been appreciating his music for a while now, but have hesitated to post it because he’s my skinnier, darker-haired doppelganger.

But nothing crosses bizarre boundaries like music. Here are a few of his finest works.

This cover of A Link To The Past‘s “Darkworld” theme is simply perfect when plucked.

Sonic’s Green Hill Zone music requires more mandolin.

Turrican 2?

Wonderboy 3?

And we’re back to the more “mainstream” banjo video game covers, if such a thing exists.

Check out Banjo Guy Ollie’s YouTube channel for a whole lot more.
