We’ve seen Uncharted 4 in action. Here’s a closer look at the star of the game, Nathan Drake — and how Naughty Dog updated the character.
This panel, which comes from last week’s PlayStation Experience show, has the Naughty Dog team talking about how they drafted the newest Nathan Drake model. In short, there was a lot of thought put into the new Nathan Drake. It’s fascinating to hear them talk about how they chose his costume, how they obsess over details like folds and creases, his wrinkles, and even getting Drake’s half-tuck juuust right.
The video is about an hour long, but it’s definitely worth a watch if you’re at all interested in the game.
The detail here is staggering:

man he looks so old now
and hot!
He also looks a lot more human. He kinda looks alien in 3 looking at that comparison. It’s insane.
I was going to say that too. He actually looks like a person now.
So are the creases on his clothes still just painted on or do they move as he moves?
Yes they do. Watch the gameplay vid and you’ll see his shirt moving in the breeze at the start.
Should’ve worn sun screen, Drake!
For a dude who can hold himself on a cliff with 3 fingers while reaching out and forcefully pulling a spike out of a rock wall, his forearms are pretty standard, they should be like Popeye’s…
I think this might be a mythbuster job for @markserrels!
Yep. His Jeremy Renners should be tearing those elbow sleeves.
Hot damn.
If Nathan Fillion doesn’t play him in a life action movie, then I’m gonna be upset
Dunno if you’ve seen Fillion these days but he’s getting up there and has a paunch. He had the attitude and look during Firefly days but it’s a younger man’s game.
If Chris Pratt can pull it off in 6 months…
Looks like Drake might need to go to Advanced Hair! Looks like he’s thinning out in his old(er) age.
HD arm hair.
Nice in the amount of details the PS4 can handle. Awesome job by the texture artists.
Normal mapping still? or is there a new tech/workflow used.
BUT,
I kinda wish more resources are put into the level design for the cinematic shot — I like looking at long shots of places and locations. Traveling through those locations with a long shot camera setting and keeping the close up of faces to a bare minimum. Minimum like Sergio Leone or Akira Kurosawa.

@ 30 fps.
This is a place holder. The final build of Drake is a low-res stick figure.
