Playing Destiny can be time consuming, especially if you want to level multiple characters. Naturally, players are finding low-effort ways to get the job done, some of which don’t require physically playing the game at all.
A player that goes by the handle yavin427 recently shared a method with Reddit, and it involves using a “servomechanism” to automate meleeing in Destiny while standing in place. It’s not the most sophisticated Destiny robot or anything, but it does mean that Yavin can open up an early Ocean of Storms level on the moon and can simply let the game run with the robot without worry — the game will rush enemies at the player all by itself. The bot will then melee and or shoot until it dies, at which point the game reloads the checkpoint and lets the character do it all over again. yavin can come back in whenever they want, take over, pick up all the weapon drops, and reap the experience rewards.
“Woke up this morning to a brand new 20!,” Yavin wrote on Reddit. “Had about 3600 kills, and 900 deaths (lol), and like 50 green engrams. I started at level 16.5 yesterday afternoon, and reached 20 sometime while I was asleep. With the armour I had waiting for him he is now a 26.”
“Seems to be getting anywhere from 15 to 215 exp per run, depending on timing,” Yavin wrote.
Here’s the robot in action:
And here it is after Yavin rebuilt it so that the bot both shoots and melees enemies until death:

Clever? Nah I say it’s lazy.
You can power through from 1 to Lv 20 in 6 hours play time with no hassles just by doing the story missions on their harder difficulty when available.
Or you can go do something interesting and productive for 6 hours and come back. If it was their first character, yeah, that’s what I’d call lazy. Since it’s the latest in a list of characters it’s a clever way to avoid poor design.
Sounds like fun?
this would be worthwhile in the cru. probably pick up some ok drops based on level even if you record zero kills. just need to play the whole round.
So… its an autofire controller for a platform that doesn’t have autofire controllers yet.
Seriously? Why even bother playing. The whole reason for playing is to grind for gear. Some people hate this. That’s fine. If you don’t like it, don’t play.
This is completely pointless to me.
You missed the part where they wanted to play, they just didn’t want to go through the grind to get a character to 20.
But that’s exactly the point: everything after level 20 IS A GRIND
10/10. Would invent mechanism to play for me again.
If Bungie is anything like the Bungie of old (and they aren’t, they’ve changed a lot), they’ll ban this kind of behaviour.
