Sorry, PC owners — you’ll be getting Grand Theft Auto V a little late this year. Rockstar has delayed the upcoming PC port of their massive open-world game to March 24.
The good news: Rockstar says the much-anticipated heists are (finally) coming to GTA Online before then. Heists will launch on consoles “in the coming weeks” before that March 24 PC release, the developer says.
“Our apologies for the slight shift in the date but the game requires a few extra weeks of testing and polish to make it as good as can be,” Rockstar writes on their newswire. “Moving a release date is never a decision we take lightly and is a choice we make only when we know it is in the best interests of the game and our fans. Thanks everyone for your understanding and we assure you these few extra weeks will be worth it when the game does arrive in March.”
They have also put up the PC specs for GTA V:
Minimum specifications:

Sigh.. I’ve been waiting since 2013 for this game on PC but I guess another month wont kill me. If this isn’t the best PC Port ever I am quitting my job and becoming a pirate.
* extra 2 Months
I don’t know why I thought I read Feb.. oh boy.
Peace of mind they’re trying to make it a good game at least.
I know I shouldn’t buy it again, but i know I will. I haven’t bought a game since Dragon Age: Inquisition (besides the early access game GRAV which I got yesterday).
People only really want to mod the crap out of it anyways…
Yeah well a lot of people hate teams that release unfinished & untested games, myself included. So although I’m disappointed I won’t be playing in 2 weeks time, I am glad Rockstar are taking the time they feel is necessary to (hopefully) deliver a better product, instead of bowing to pressure.
I’m glad they are doing this and aren’t throwing a EA/DICE move and just releasing a buggy game.
The wait is still killing me 😛
Come on there is more than one company that releases buggy game. EA shouldn’t receive all your hate share it around.
Very true……just the latest one that came to mind.
So annoying, Ive been putting off playing the second half of GTAV on 360 to play it on PC!
65GB install? Going to have to clear out steam I think!
Delete files?!
MADNESS
Just buy a 4TB drive 😉
Install on a HDD and wait for 5mins for the game to load no thanks would rather move files from SSD.
Although not unexpected it’s still bullshit. What pisses me off is why wait until two weeks before release to annouce a delay when it was probably known internally since before christmas.
Any bets on a May 19th release.
It’s more upsetting that they lied about it when there were those rumours, but what can you do…
I still have not played it, was waiting for PC release,
reading the steam forum ALOT of people are very very mad
Im mad but maybe Nvidia will come up with a 4k video card by then,
also I save having to put money on it next week
Why are people so mad, would they prefer an epic fuckup of Halo Master Chief Collection scale?
I’m happy they are delaying it, if it means we get a better day 1 experience and aren’t downloading 20GB frigging patches before you can even play.
Seriously, the internets needs to grow up.
Nobody can judge them until it’s released in all fairness. However, Driveclub was delayed by over a year and when it released, it was so broken it was almost unplayable. The game had an online focus and online didn’t even work! So whilst I can appreciate a game being delayed in order to further perfect it, it better be bloody close to perfect to justify such a decision.
your forgetting alot of immature kids that play this game are all on the steam forums, its where they “hang” as they dont go outside anymore
Damn kids.
Get off my lawn!
Knew it was going to happen. Still hurts.
Own it on PS3, talked myself out of a PS4 copy to just wait for PC release. Now I regret that decision.
It’s still going to run like a polished turd. R* suck at porting to PC.
Did you ever play Max Payne 3 on PC? I ran it on max settings with the HD textures on my i5 2500k & GTX 560 rig and it ran smoothly, did not have an issue at all. Could only ever get GTA IV running at medium everything on that same rig bleh.
Agreed. Max Payne 3 ran like a dream on my PC (i7 950 and HD6850), and it was a really fun game to boot. GTA IV would crash on me every time I drove Roman from the docks at the very start of the game if I so much as nicked any of the cars parked on the sides. Even upgrading to a i5-4670 and 660Ti I still can’t get full settings to run smoothly.
I was thinking of Max Payne 3 when I was typing that (excellent game, by the way) and I do agree that it ran beautifully.
That being said, I kind of have a feeling it might have originally been developed for PC and ported to consoles, rather than the other way around. Would also explain why R* have a reputation for avoiding PC ports. Red Dead Redemption could have made a stupid amount of money with a port, but never did. I am sure there would be many more, it’s just the first coming to mind.
In RDR’s defense it was apparently developed by the branch of Rockstar who don’t touch PC ports at all and well I found it to be way too hyped for what it was, I reallu loved L.A. Noire though. Also apparently the GTA V PC version is being handled by the same branch that handled the PC version of Max Payne 3, so yeah, fingers crossed there.
Either way the PS4 version just looks plain awesome I must admit, i’ve probably sunk 70+ hours into it now, I sunk 50+ hours into the PS3 version and I didn’t really touch GTA Online with the PS3 version and can;t be bothered on PS4 cause I haven’t bothered with PS+
I’m jelly as Hell. As I said, I was very tempted to buy a PS4 copy but am holding out for PC, just because FPS has to be M/KB combo for me.
Haha, I was relieved when it was announced for PS4 cause I wasn’t really using it as much as I thought I was, now i’m using it for multiple hours a day and the disc hasn’t left the console since I bought it back in November.
I can’t wait to play it on PC quite honestly, it’s one of my favourite releases of 2013/2014
Gives me more time to beef up my PC.
Suprised that the minmum video card requirement is either a 9800 GT or a 4870…2008 cards…would like to see it run when it eventually it comes out
The delay sucks but at least I sort of meet the recommended specs. (i5-2500, GTX670)
This was bound to happen…. I’m nearly at the point that I wont even bother with this.
it’s now nearly a 2 year old game that’s been delayed again. I don’t see them making any “amazing graphical enhancements” to it now that will make having waited this long for the PC version worth it.
Putting my old 3gb gtx 580’s in SLI in my brothers PC. Combined with an i7 and 16gb of ram. Think it will hold out and achieve high settings?
Who knows? I’m putting my 2 GB 580s up for sale, they are still sought after by video/CUDA guys.
Have Rockstar ever released a PC version without a delay?
Max Payne 3 came out same day as the other versions or at least that same week..
Nah, MP3 was definitely delayed. Only by a couple of weeks, I think, but google will still bring up all the articles about the delay.
GTA 1 and 2 and Max Payne 3
MP3 was delayed, as I mentioned above. GTA1&2 weren’t technically Rockstar games, they were made by DMA before it was bought out. They were also PC games that were later ported to console.
Great. So it’s NOT Steamworks compatible, fuck sake Rockstar. I don’t mind having to use Socialclub, but would’ve liked Steamworks, oh well.
What makes you think it’s not steamworks compatible? They don’t list steam as a requirement but that might just mean there’s the option to buy it at other places and have it registered/activated exclusively through the social club so steam isn’t compulsory. I mean they’d be utterly insane to NOT sell it through steam
I mean the retail copy as in the one JB & EB will be selling. It only lists requiring social club which tells me the retail keys won’t activate on Steam, Max Payne 3 & LA Noire were the same, available on Steam but retail copies were Social Club only, sucks really.
Are you aware the you can add non-Steam games to Steam? It allows you to boot through Steam, use the overlay in-game.. I think the only features not available are Community pages and such.
Yeah, well aware of that unless it’s an Origin game, then you can’t run it via Steam apparently lol. I have every other GTA/Rockstar release on PC which is why i’m wanting it as a Steamworks, but I won’t hold my breath Rockstar would release the retail version as Steamworks
Is retail that important? I take it you’re planning on getting a special edition or something
There’s no special editions as far as I am aware it’s the same as what PS4/Xbone got, as in it’s the same as the special edition on PS3/360 which got the blimp etc… I just don’t overly fancy the massive download I know it’s going to be if it requires 65gb HDD space :/
While it sucks that its been held back, at least it means that ill beable to finish dying light and gat out of hell by then, it also means that GTAV will tide me over til may for the witcher 3
You watch, they delay it under the guise (and our hope) that they will be spending the extra time to release a well polished and bug free PC port, but I’m not getting my hopes up 🙁
After playing GTA Online for close to 700 hours on 360, at least another 150 hours on x1, I can say that while the pc delay disappoints me, I’m not too bothered about waiting another 2 months for mods. I’d rather wait than have a POS that runs as bad as GTA IV did at release.
Did anyone else read the fine print?
Sounds like they are going to use an always online DRM and this affectively kills mods because it sounds like they are going to use the Denuvo DRM.
“a representative from Denuvo reached out to The Escapist, saying that Denuvo will not be used in Grand Theft Auto V. “Denuvo is not in any way involved with any version of GTAV,” said the spokesperson.”

Love how R* PR department are just whitewashing the Newswire post to remove any negative feedback, no matter how calm, rational or on-topic it is.
Funny thing is when I heard about this I thought to myself that this equates to XBOX ONE and PS4 sales still strong so lets keep that money coming.
I’m completely okay with them taking as much time as they want to make this port good.
I’ll just say this, I’m out with this franchise if they don’t focus on the keyboard and mouse controls.
