Over the 40 years since the Lupin The Third’s debut, the characters have evolved. They’re different! And that’s expected.
Via Twitter k_sawada0731, let’s see how the characters in the original anime opening stack up with a modern take. The remade credits sequence appeared in Lupin the Third vs Detective Conan: The Movie, which was originally released in 2013 but just aired on Japanese TV.
(The original anime opening is on the right, and the newer take is on the left.)
To be fair, the characters in anime look different from the original manga. Although, the Lupin the Third vs Detective Conan movie does offer a perfect comparison that spans four decades.

The characters aren’t different, it’s just that animation itself has evolved over time to be more detailed. The style is what has changed, the characters themselves have stayed the same.
It looks great! God, I love Lupin, that rapscallion.
