There’s going to be even more sci-fi-styled Civilization action coming this spring, with a new strategy game coming from legendary game designer Sid Meier picking up where Civilization: Beyond Earth left off.
Announced today at Gamespot, Sid Meier’s Starships will have players sending their own fleets of spacecraft out into the cosmos in an effort to create peace — or domination — via a planetary federation. There’s also supposedly going to be some connection between Beyond Earth and Starships for those who own both games. Starships hits in the second quarter of 2015 for PC, Mac and iPad. Head to Gamespot for more details.

This reminded me I haven’t picked up Galactic Cvilizations III yet.
If you can’t design your own starships in Sid Meier’s Starships, then its an insta-fail.
I feel hesitation. Beyond Earth was meh…. but SPACESHIP!!!
Anything is better than Beyond Earth.
I smell the bastard love child of sins of a solar empire and X3
Where is Sid Meier’s Railroads 2?!
Hey! I’ve found a kindred spirit! 😀
Any time I see ‘Sid Meier’s XXXXX’ announced, I think RAILROADS!
I’d recommend Railroad Tycoon 3 instead. A few years older than Railroads, but the better game in my opinion,
With Endless Space already out and very awesome and certainly filling the Civ with spaceships niche, I don’t see much excitement in waiting for this. Time for another game of Endless Space instead!
I’m still excited because a: I believe there should be more space strategy games out there and b: as good as Endless Space was, it was a little unpolished, and also lacked… ‘soul’ for lack of a better word.
“and also lacked… ‘soul’ for lack of a better word.”
That’s more how I feel about Beyond Earth!
True… neither is as good as SMAC in that regard. I really wish they would bring back video and Interludes in some way, tasteful artwork just doesn’t have the same impact.
So they’ve finally decided to try and compete with GalCiv?
They’ll be hard pressed to offer a better game than GC3 is shaping up to be imo.
“A new Sid Meier game”
K.
“That’s not Civ.”
WELL NOW I’M INTERESTED.
I didn’t think Beyond Earth was a bad game per se, but I think Starships should have been an expansion to it. Would have opened up the game in so many ways.
Beyond Earth was practically a carbon copy of Civ5 with different paint, if this is the same then its a big meh. They will need to pull all the ropes on this one, and yes building your own ships is very important these days for this type of game.
