The vast majority of students still wear suits or kimono, but in Kyoto, year after year, some students ditch the standard attire for, well, anything they like.
The graduation ceremonies for the Kyoto University and Kyoto City University of the Arts had some amusing cosplay this year.
Imagine sitting in an auditorium at the prestigious Kyoto University and seeing these guys walk past.

But, like I previously said and like you can see in the above photos, lots of people wear more conservative outfits, even at art school Kyoto City University of the Arts, where things would seem a bit looser:

I cosplayed as Freddie Prinze Jr from She’s All That for my graduation.
My wife just had her UniSA nursing graduation today – not a single cosplay in sight,
Having worked in the university sector for 20+ years, I can tell you now that none of these people would have been allowed on stage in Australia to receive their testamur. Sad face.
That ET (I assume it’s ET) is pure nightmare fuel.
It would be easier to sleep through the boring speeches with an outfit on.
