After a decade of cancellations, false starts and one tragic studio demise, this is the year we’ll finally see a third Star Wars Battlefront game. Here’s our first look.
Today as part of the Star Wars Celebration, publisher EA released a trailer for their upcoming take on Battlefront, which is developed by DICE (best known for Battlefield) and will be released on November 17 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Watch it here:
It’s all CGI — to be specific, it’s “footage representative of PlayStation 4,” according to the trailer — because who needs to see actual gameplay?
This new incarnation of the classic Star Wars series will be multiplayer-heavy — there’s no campaign — and it will support up to 40 players at once. It’s set during the original trilogy and will feature Rebel vs. Empire battles on Hoth, Tattooine and other planets, including Jakku, a new desert world that will be introduced in Episode VII: The Force Awakens later this year.
The Jakku level will be free downloadable content, which is awesome. People who pre-order Battlefront will get it on December 1, while everyone else can play it starting December 8. The seventh Star Wars film will be in theatres on December 18.

Only 40 thats abit of a bummer but hey who cares
All aboard the star wars train baby
I think 40 will work better than expected. It’s really the map design that is more important than the maximum player amount in my eyes.
Agreed
Looks amazing but show me actual game play with the HUD and not a scripted video please, then I will be impressed.
CGI trailer…what is this, the days of ps2?
In-engine is not the same as game-play, but it does look amazing.
Please be good, please be good, please be good.
$60 on Origin Mexico
$100 on Origin Australia
Shh.. you will upset our Overlords.
Dollars? I thought Mexico had pesos…
Pesos? I thought they had tacos… mmm… tacos… gggghhhhh….

For those of you who don’t understand what sarcasm is… This is it. People are hyped for something that could possibly have nothing to do with the finished product. Think back to things like The Old Republic MMO, Final Fantasy VII running on PS3 demo, etc. That is what this trailer is; something that is showing us the rendering power of the engine.
I’m not saying that we can’t be hyped over the amazing power this engine holds, but don’t go crazy and praising this as “the greatest thing ever” just yet. Use caution before jumping onto the hype train is all I’m saying.
If I were a rich man,
Yubby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dum.
I’d surround EA with my wallets and bank cards,
And laugh like Hercule Satan as they bukkake Electronic Arts.
Now there’s a mental image that’ll require bleach to wash away lol
No campaign? That’s pretty disappointing. Still super excited for everything else though.
This is DICE. Given the quality of the single player campaigns they did for BF3 and BF4, it’s probably best they stick to what they’re good at.
I remember a time when they did good campaigns…
#BringBackBadCompanySaying this is by DICE might be a misnomer though… it’s DICE LA.
Essentially, they’re Danger Close with DICE staff as project leads.
I wish battlefield had no campaign
Crap. I really only buy games for the campaign.
No campaign, no sale. The campaign only had to be short and crap, and I’d have loved it.
Bitterly disappointed.
there are some co-op missions that can be played Hans style.
Ok it looks good but lets face it, this is being rendered on PC for the PS4, expect considerable graphical down-scaling once it gets on PS4!
