Teased since the release of 2.0 last year and officially revealed via Game Informer’s June cover story, Disney Infinity adds Star Wars characters to the toys-meet-games mix.
While the inclusion of Star Wars characters comes as no real surprise, the variety is pretty impressive. We’ve got the original trilogy, the prequels, some Clone Wars characters in there. Could we see a Rebels expansion, and new toys for the release of The Force Awakens later this year? Probably not, because Disney hates making money.
Along with the frankly adorable Star Wars figures, Disney Infinity 3.0 will continue to plumb Disney franchises (those Tron figures that were released digitally earlier this year are becoming a reality) and Marvel for new opportunities for adventure — see Ultron and the Hulkbuster armour on the cover.
The Game Informer article details some of the polish coming to the third instalment of the series as well, most importantly a heightened focus on gameplay, an element the previous games have stumbled over. With Ninja Theory returning to polish combat and driving being tweaked by Sumo Digital of Sonic All-Stars Racing fame, expect more playing and less wandering about the creative Toy Box halfheartedly placing scenery.

…. They have already announced that the 3rd Star Wars play set will be The Force Awakens later in the year. Playsets are always sold with 2 figures so….
Do some research for once, or even try reading the damn source that you posted.
Woah, thems fight’n words
Did the phrase “Disney hates making money” not set off a single sarcasm alarm? Mine personally went off so hard that the resultant shockwave caused the UN to impose crippling trade sanctions and establish a peacekeeping force along my borders.
Crippling Trade Sanctions…..Peacekeeping force…..oooh sounds like a George Lucas prequel!
…I’m pretty sure this was a joke.
My point was that even as sarcasm, it reads as “we’re almost definitely getting Force Awakens stuff” which is a bit redundant to joke about considering it’s already confirmed in the same article as the rest of the information.
Kingdom Hearts 3, please!
I’m mainly interested(but not super keen) in the Marvel stuff and the cost. I picked up the Disney Infinity 2.0 starter and over $100 worth of figures… what exactly does 3.0 offer? I’m assuming a revised engine and some compatibility. Basically my ignorance is making me feel that it’s rude to charge for 3.0 atm since 2.0 is still relatively new?
Disney Infinity is a yearly franchise. Let the horror of that sink in.
Although I would love them to detach the base station and sell it seperately, they all work just as well.
Yup as it is I’ve got 3 base stations so far, Bought the game 1.0 on the Wii U, then 2.0 on the PS4 and then recently bought 2.0 on the Wii U because it was super cheap and now the kids can play it without impacting me using the ps4.

looks like there will be a software only version released
I’m really looking forward to 3.0, the changes between 1.0 and 2.0 were great and if they continue to refine like they have it’ll be excellent.
Also I’ve just finished buying the 2.0 figures so it’s good timing for me!
