Well, These Tetsuya Nomura Designs Look Different

Square Enix’s new smartphone game, Rampage Land Rankers, is labelled as an “imaginary science adventure drama” and is a “PvD” (Player versus Dungeon) game where players create custom characters, called “Rankers” to explore board-game-like dungeons to fight monsters and find treasures.

Actions in dungeons, like moving to attacking, are executed by using cards that can be obtained and arranged in a deck, for added strategy. Check out the trailer for the game below, with English subtitles.

The character designs of the game are by Square Enix regular and Kingdom Hearts leadman, Tetsuya Nomura, and have an overall steampunk-esque aesthetic, a somewhat new direction for Nomura. Aside from the main character designs, Nomura also designed support characters like William Shakespeare and Elizabeth Tudor.

The game is being headed by Mitsunori Takahashi who also directed Dissidia Final Fantasy for the PSP.

Rampage Land Rankers is a free to play game with payable elements and is scheduled for release in Japan this month. There is currently a Japanese page where people can sign up for the game. The game will be available on iOS and Android platforms.
