Fate Stay/Night Unlimited Blade Works‘ second season is the most beautiful anime on TV right now — if not the most beautiful of all time. So it’s time to present this visual feast in the best way I know how: (bandwidth-gobbling) animated GIFs.
*Note: GIFs contain spoilers — like who fights who, etc.
If you’re looking for more awesome gifs from this series, reddit has compiled a great collection from the first season.
Fate Stay/Night Unlimited Blade Works airs on Tokyo MX in Japan and can be viewed for free with English subtitles at Animelab.

Some pretty significant spoilers in there though.
i dunno… the shingeki no kyojin (attack on titan) anime kinda upped the standards of animation, coloring and lineart.
ufotable’s work on Fate/Zero and Unlimited Blade Works is far more advanced. Attack on Titan’s very well animated, but it’s primarily just well-executed 2D with an effective art style. ufotable’s big thing with these has been how well they integrate 3D and 2D animation together, and their use of digital effects all over the place.
ahhh, i see. now i wna check it out. cheers dude!
this anime is stunning in every sense of the word. Fate/Stay Zero was a great series this was a massive step up. From a graphical sense through to character development, plot, story line…amazing work.
I’d agree with you for the first half of ULB but the second half is definitely not as good as the first. For example, the last three episodes have basically been nothing but Archer regurgitating the same exposition over and over. WE GET IT ARCHER, YOU DON’T LIKE SHIROU VERY MUCH. Apart from that, full credit to ufotable for crafting the most visually advanced anime in history (the sound effects are pretty top notch as well, and the blows in fights are very distinctive, it’s great). Also it’s Fate Zero not Fate Stay/Zero (sorry i couldn’t contain my inner otaku and grammar nazi)
The issues with Archer are an issue with the original game. It bangs on on that stuff for way too long in general, but it’s sort of the main thrust of the Unlimited Blade Works arc.
I’m most looking forward to their adaption of the Heaven’s Feel arc. Much darker, much more interesting IMO (it’s basically the ‘true’ route) and it doesn’t have the exposition issues to the same degree.
I’m with you on that one, Heaven’s Feel looks mighty interesting and if they keep the quality level the same (no reason why they wouldn’t) then it should be excellent. As you say it is darker, and it gives sakura a reason to exist, so yes I can’t wait 🙂
Kotaku’s commenters always complain about .gifs used in articles. This is great.
WEBMs exist. There’s literally no use for GIFs any more.
Can’t copy-paste WEBM.
And GIF can be used anywhere image tags are allowed.
WEBM is far more efficient where appropriate, and I’m not saying the above is the best use of GIF by any means, but one is not always a drop-in replacement for the other, either.
Now, if animated PNG had wider support, then there would definitely be no further use for GIF.
