It’s an act of suicidal heroism that helps tip the entire Battle of Endor in the Alliance’s favour, but the pilot responsible for the Executor’s destruction — Arvel Crynyd, aka Green Leader — is basically an unknown. A random face attached to a giant explosion, whose actor wasn’t even credited in Return of the Jedi. This comic looks to change that.
Green Leader, by Daniel Warren Johnson (via Super Punch), seeks to flesh the character out a little, reminding us that even the most nameless characters in the Star Wars universe have a story to tell and loved ones they leave behind.
Even if that story is a sad one. Read it here.

I love this concept!!
Having spent all my childhood reading sci-fi and fantasy stories, I’ve always been facinated by the stories of the unknown (placeholder) soldiers who march into battle by the millions, where 1 in 10 escape by the skin of their teeth and all they’re doing is trying to live an ordinary life (without being destined by the force to bring balance to the glaxy or whatever)
It is so brilliant. I still get a little misty eyed reading it, Ackbar sells it every time.
Wow – the ships in the Calamari cruiser dock are way too big. Makes the people look super tiny. But cool little backstory about that pilot.
