It’s not playable, but it is pretty cool-looking.
In it, Jacob and his crew, The Rooks, leap between stagecoaches, run across train rooftops, and steal members from other gangs by being too cool for school. Shit, they are probably even too cool to return to school at age 32 to finish those last few credits and finally get their doctorate. They run the school — the school of hard knocks. Hard knocks and conveniently marketing-friendly top hats.
Yeah, it’s all CG, which is kinda a shame given that Ubi’s already shown some gameplay. CG trailers are also pretty emblematic of E3 hype — all flash, very little substance. But it’s really well done CG, so that’s something. Fingers crossed that we’ll get something more substantial later today.
Can we get Jacob’s sister Evie front-and-centre in any of this stuff, though? I mean, she’s playable. She is the other main character. And does anyone else find Jacob to be kind of an insufferable prick, or is it just me? He strikes me as the embodiment of a “badass” as imagined by the Internet, top hat and all. I hope he’s given room to be flawed and interesting in the game, but Assassin’s Creed heroes have historically been extremely hit or miss, so we’ll see.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will be out on October 23.

Same game re-released every year with slightly different mechanics and a boring lengthy storyline.
That and the fact they ‘fatten’ everything up with boring-arse collectables to farm and just when you think you’ve had enough they charge you for crappy single mission DLC and now costumes and weapons.
My reaction to this cinematic was a resounding “meh!”.
I remember a few days ago there was a questionnaire sent out by Ubisoft asking player’s opinions on the franchise. One of them was if we wanted CG trailers. I answered yes because I remember how amazing the trailers for 2, Brotherhood & Revelations were. Even the trailers for 3 & 4 got me hyped.
The problem with Ubisoft is they’re thinking too large. They are showing too much. Sure, it’s a spectacle, but the reason I loved the original trailers were they gave a glimpse. They gave you just enough to know the setting, the character, and one new gimmick. As each subsequent trailer is released, it has deviated from the original idea to include flashy nothings set to music that really doesn’t fit. It may get people hyped, but it is nowhere near as engrossing nor as memorable.
Oh, Assassin’s Creed. You break my heart, thinking about what we once had and would could have been…
