Let’s face facts the chances of this movie actually being made are slim, but here are the reports: The Rock is placed to star in a movie adaptation of Rampage. Yes, the movie about monsters climbing up apartment buildings and eating people.
I hope this movie gets made, mainly because I want to see how the hell they make it watchable. What is the plot here? Rampage the movie, based on the video games, based on old monster movies.
Also, sad news: The Rock is not playing the monster. He’ll be fighting the monsters. Goddammit. All I want in this world is to watch The Rock eat people.
According to Deadline, The Rock is planning to star in this movie after wrapping Fast & Furious 8.
Details are thin on the ground, but there is a script, penned by Ryan Engle and it’s being produced by New Line and Beau Flynn. As much as I love The Rock, I’m cautiously expecting a barely watchable CGI suck-fest. If it ever gets made.

I can’t even. :/
hells yeah RAMPAGE
It seems like it’s a pretty straightfoward movie to make. You have some monsters that come into a populated urban area and start wreaking havoc. Then maybe they start to notice the other monster’s cramping their style and they fight. Meanwhile the humans don’t know what to do so they form some sort of defense force, maybe a global one, to fight off the monsters. It’s so simple I don’t know why it’s never been done before…
Sounds pretty damn close to godzilla…
I just want the Monsters themselves to be the main characters/protagonists. Of course they probably wont be, though. It’s the same mistake that the Transformers and Ninja Turtles movies make. Humans are the main characters, and the titular characters are second tier support. (for all it’s flaws though, I did have a bit of fun with the Ninja Turtles movie.)
But more to my first point, I don’t want the monsters to be the bad guys.
Read “Rock Set”.
Thought it was talking about the 80’s band Roxette.
Was disappointed.
I read “A Rock” which was the only reason I clicked through to the article. Sadly I was mistaken.
Most of his movies are a suck fest. Which is a pity though.
Except for Welcome to the Jungle, thats was pretty funny!
We need Guillermo Del Toro on this! We need Pacific Rim style monster battles set in the Rampage universe!
COME ON THAT COULD BE FREAKING AMAZING!
That’s all I could of think of when I read this – If Guillermo is allowed to do this, the way he wants to, then it would actually work.
But I think he’s working on PR2 now?
Movie should be camp as hell. Not serious. You’ve got a giant lizard, a giant wolfman and a giant ape. Go full on 1950’s style with this film for gods sake. Women dressed like Bo Derek screaming on top of buildings. Men and women morphing into these monsters etc. This could be brilliantly camp.
They should have adapted the board game that’s totally not based on Rampage at all, Terror in Meeple City (previously titled Rampage). That way, they’d be forced into making a goofy, camp romp.
I look at this and think Disney style film
There will be some story about genetic experiementation and humans getting mutated into said giant monsters. Don’t forget you turn back to human form when your health is depleted in the game.
And suddenly the excitement gets turned on its head and I don’t know how to feel.
